And, Deontay Wilder's next opponent is...

His team knows that their guy is hiding a despicable Glass Jaw and as such they're milking that bronze medal for as long as they can because as soon as he steps up to a fight bigger than those held at his local flea market, that Mandible is getting shattered.atsch

 

What is this glass jaw thing -- where does it come from?

He got knocked down once, and got up and knocked the guy out.

I haven't seen or heard of him being rocked by anyone else. He's sparred extensively with Haye and Adamzek and there have been no words out of those camps about him having any trouble competing or taking punishment -- in fact, Haye had two partners in camp and ended up giving Wilder almost all the work because he was competive and durable and the other guy wasn't.

Perhaps he'll go all the way, perhaps he won't. I've seen plenty of guys step up too fast and pay a price. He's still a baby in boxing years, IMO.

And it seems he has moved on to the second phase of his career opponent-wise: the first 12 or so were basically no-skill stiffs, just there for Wilder to exercise his power and get more comfortable in the pro game. And one of those, Harold Sconiers, went the distance with Tor Hamer and got iced by Wilder in one.

The last few fights have been against journeymen, some of whom have a reputation for being durabe: Sconniers was two fights removed from a win over Andre Purlette (40-3), Damon Reed got KTFO in two after going 10 with James Toney, DeAndre Abron had been 12 and had fought for a WBO title at light heavy.

Alexander isn't a world-beater, but he went into the sixth with his last opponent -- 17-2-1 Tony Grano

So while none of these second-phase guys are contenders, they aren't supposed to be. They bring a decent skill set and provide a learning opportunity for Wilder. Seems to me, Wilder's management is trying to find someone to give him some good rounds without being a huge threat to win -- and he's knocking these guys out rather than getting those rounds.

If he was still fighting 1-2-2 guy, I'd see where you're coming from. But if Alexander and Reed are credible enough to be fighting the Toneys and Briggs' of the world, they would seem to me to be fair stepping stones for a guy like Wilder. I don't see where Tyson Fury is taking a lot more chances, quite frankly.

 

I think that it would serve Wilder´s development better to step-up a bit more opponent -wise. This Alexander -fight looks more like a sure-KO win for his immaculate list (in numbers).

 

Exactly. Anyone who knows anything about boxing knows what's going on here. Wilder has a grade A china chin, his handlers know it, and therefore they want to keep him away from live bodies as long as possible.

As SOON as he faces anyone who can punch back a little, he's ending up out cold on the canvas. His handlers are gonna take great care to put that momenent off as long as possible. Hence, stiff after stiff after stiff........

 

Deontay is being protected like the little ***** he is.

record wise i was like this is ok a journeyman with over 30 pro fights a guy that is seasoned

then i saw he is an experienced early KO victim

what Wilder needs is guys who will take him over 5 rounds and test his stamina and defense

no world beater but a guy who will test

 

That, and he's fought NOTHING but bums for 3 years. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to put 2 and 2 together here.

Wilder's packing china in his mandible, his handlers know it, therefore they keep him away from ANYONE who could be seen as a legitimate threat to test his shaky whiskers, particularly after one of these stiffs unexpectedly did!

This is classic build up the record and cash out on your glass-jawed prospect stuff. Classic.

 

People don't seem to get it...

With the total lack of viable HW contenders in the U.S, Wilder is a potential cash-cow... IF HE'S HANDLED RIGHT! ... Which means, you don't take risks at this stage with a young kid who's still got alot to learn... You build his name, and his record (to lets say 25-0) Then you start making moves towards serious tests, and a shot at the title.

They did the same thing with Tyson... (and many others)

What would you do if you managed the only blue-chip H.W. prospect in the U.S.?... Throw him to the wolves before anybody has made a decent pay-day?

I'd love to see your old ass jump into a ring you despicable ****in runt. Its easy to talk **** about fighters from the safety of a computer isn't it? Until you judge your own jaw, don't open your **** sucker about REAL fighters.

 

he was almost KO by sconiers. he needs a better trainer who can utilize his height and reach advantage.
