There is a certain truth to the fact that heavies of the past DID fight much lighter guys, and there was even research done that shows that vast majority of ATG heavyweight's opponents were in fact light heavyweights and cruserweights. The point i am making is that NONE of the ATG's of the past faced the threat of a guy so much bigger than them and at the same time a talented athlete, a solid powerpuncher/KO artist and an experienced one to boot.

People tend to overly exaggerate the power of the older heavyweights but fail to note that in today's boxing those fighters would most likely be fighting in lower weight classes against the likes of Adamek and Haye, not Klitschkos. Foreman was a notable exception but just look at boxrec and you shall see.

Bottom line? I wouldn't hesitate to bet real cash on K-bros against many ATG's of the past. That's about as much conviction as a man can have, i.e. putting his money on the line.

Btw the cutout for the past for me is mid 80's. I am 29 and consider guys like Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis etc to be of modern era.

Buggy is one of the best poster's on ESB! I do not agree with his statements entirely but they do have merit.

The problem with most on here is that they argue on behalf of media constructed legends/myths and you cannot kill a myth no matter how much evidence fly's in it's face. Not unlike how most people think Bruce Lee was the greatest fighter in history with nothing but myth and legend to support their claims.

The media construct of what a great fighter is supposed to look, come from and act like can also greatly obscure the issue.

That fight happened after a long lay off and he himself admitted he was rusty in that fight ...not to mention it's not like Lyle was some skill-less power puncher and Foreman showed a great amount of heart digging deep and finishing him the way he did when he was obviously very badly fatigued.
