I dont want to hear all you Hopkins fans say "Yeah Joes not that good really...Hopkins was old" ...cos thats how it often goes on here. If Joe C wins give him his props... for beating old pops!!!! :good If your going to say that say it now!! I really think as good as Hopkins is, that his best days are long behind him. He knows he's fighting for his pension money. Even Calzaghe is - hes only got 2 or 3 left in him and as said so...he just wants the big fights he's always craved to end his legacy and fatten his bank balance so he can live richly for the rest of his days. If Hopkins wins this one then great as he is, he will go even higher in my estimation. I just dont see it though. Too old and no workrate to realistically compete with JC. I see this as a shutout decision for JC...not even close. In fact the old man will suffer real embarrassment at times in this fight as he is mesmerized with speedy combos coming from angles he never knew existed! Watch and see!!! You heard it here first!!!
While I hope Joe stomps that grandma, in the meantime I would like to see Kessler-Bute in Montreal and then Kessler-CalzagheII in Vegas..It would give Kessler a rightful shot at redemption and Joe the opportunity for more hardware and a chance to beat the greatest fighter he's fought twice(most ATGs have fought their toughest competition more than once)
This fight will not be a blowout at all, has Hopkins ever been blown out, aside from his first pro fight almost 20 years ago, the answers no. Hopkins will be Calzaghes hardest fight to date, Hopkins still is the bigger stronger fighter in the ring. I do believe Hopkins will slow Calzaghes workrate alot by using rough house tactics and countering when Calzaghe throws his wild punches, something Kessler did little of. This fight will be competitive and tough for both fighters, I see either one getting the victory, but the younger, fresher Calzaghe gets the nod IMO.
Hopkins is an ok boxer but is is overated as much as Joe Calzaghe is under rated. Joe will win; convincingly.
How did he do against RJJ old man popkins when he was a young 'un himself? Thats a great fighter that he's got on his record...but he got beat convincingly right? And is Taylor really an ATG??? Cos he beat him twice also. Food for thought.
Thank you for reminding the people who lick the grey hair off of Popkins satchel:good He beat Blevel Tarver WoW..the run to 175 was only to avoid fighters in 160, 168, and oh yea he hasnt fought anyone besides Tarver at 175 what an utter disgrace and total hype job..all to sad really P4P rankings can choke on a ****:good
If Jc Wins, It's Because Hopkins Is 89 Years Old... If Hopkins Wins, It Proves That Jc Was Nothing Compared To A Peak Hopkins.
This fight means nothing legacywise for Calzaghe, it's a money fight for both guys. Hopkins is just one of those annoying guys past their expiration date who just refuse to leave so they must be forced to leave. I really hope and think that Calzaghe will really embarrass old Popkins.
But Hopkins is old. And you dont want anyone saying it ? even after you referred to him as " Popkins " ?
no, ur missing my point...yeah he is old, but if your going to use that as an excuse do it now not after he gets outclassed.
Hopkins is old. it will still be a great win, Hop is 175 champ, is in most people p4p list and is one of the best middleweights in history but yeah, he is definately old. Calzaghe is old aswel for a world champion lets not forget that. I dont think you can start a thread where you refer to a fighter as 'Popkins' and then in the same thread say 'you cant say Hopkins is old'... Joes proved to people how great he is, beating Hopkins for the Rings light heavyweight title, will just the icing on an already very nice cake. Hopkins is not the fight to retire on though imo, Taylor/Pavlik winner is.:good
Neither men are in their prime. Hopkins of 2001 vs. Calzaghe now, it's still Calzaghe based on activity and accuracy. His style beats Hopkins.
Again you have missed the point. I know 1 that Hopkins is a great fighter, and 2 I know he's old...but the Hopkins fans shouldnt go using that as an excuse after the fight when he loses....cos hes old before it and they still say hes going to win.
