IMO Teddy should not have any credit for inspiring Povetkin late with all of his crazy talk. All that is saying is that he did not have Povetkin going from round 1.

Povetkin has back slid 100% under Atlas. His bread and butter is setting a torrid pace and letting his hands go. He looked much more promising before Teddy made him into a bloke who is not even worthy of having his trainer in the camp the whole time for a World Title fight.

Povetkin is world class. He needs a world class trainer. Teddy knows boxing and teaches some great stuff but he is not an employee anymore. He has to run the show and he believes everything revolves around him. That is the reason he can justify standing Povetkin up early in camp. He's ignorant to the game now. Completely blinded by his ugly image in the mirror.

When a man reaches a pinnacle like he did after winning the IBF tourney and just did again by securing a WBA title fight, he needs to have people with him who won't screw him. Teddy has trashed his reputation much worse than a loss to a Klitschko would have. He also pimped him for his Title fight camp. For what? A shitty FNF schedule? Manny Steward does not even pull this **** on Wladimir for HBO and top cards.

Povetkin should have had 2 million and a loss to a Klitschko in his pocket. And he still would have won this WBA strap eventually after Wlad became Super Champ. He would still be called a lesser champion, but the venom would not be here now. People would be looking at him in a much better light without Teddy. Even with a loss.

I also don't think Atlas should be given credit for 'inspiring' Povetkin....the truth is the conjunction of Atlas' gay speech and Povetkin upping the pace is more suspicious then anything else. I can't make myself believe that this crap made a difference for a fighter as experienced on the big stage as Povetkin. So it's annoying when boxing commentators give so much credit to Atlas when he seems to deserve so little.

Welliver's comments are not a final word but they do confirm the appearance that this boxer and trainer do not click. So one wonders whether the relationship is really about publicity for both men.

The article talks about Atlas' endearing qualities like his 'loyalty' but frankly I don't see it. Atlas treats his fighter disrespectfully. He hogs the spotlight, and refers to Povetkin "my" "kid". Povetkin is a 32 year old man, a WBA champ, and a former Olympic Gold winner.

If Povetkin really does feel he is benefitting from Atlas then more power to him but it definitely does seem like Atlas is a drag, and the comments from Sauerland and Welliver (in addition to Atlas public attacks on Sauerland) confirm the impression.

Does the interpreter join in the painting-eachother's-toenails activity or keep it strictly professional? :think

If Povetkin ever does lose, Atlas will toss him in front of the bus, get in it and run him over...and then he will back up and pull forward on him for years.

If Povetkin had lost to Chagaev it would have been unreal to see Teddy blame everyone else. Teddy is a micro manager to the hilt. He is a nit picker. And he is ruthless with his tongue.

This is a man who had a gun to Tyson's head over his niece. Do you think the nut job could ever admit that he could have went another route besides almost killing Tyson and almost landing himself in prison for life? Mike did not even sexually assault the girl, he was just testing the boundaries. Teddy put the entire situation in the hands of a teenage Mike Tyson to decide how that went. Mike Tyson is the only reason the situation did not make Atlas a murderer. Teddy gave away that control to him.

Teddy is seriously messed up in the head. Of all the trainers with no how, he is 1 of the lesser people in my eyes. I would rather put a top guy with Floyd Mayweather Sr. than him any day of the week. At least Floyd doesn't try to front about what you will get. He doesn't bother to play the angel role like Teddy does.

He also gave him bad advice in the 12th, told Povetkin to stay away from Ruslan when Povetkin had been smothering his power shots by being close. In the 12th, more so than any other round, I saw Povetkin in danger of being caught by something big because he was staying on the end of Ruslan's punches instead of in close. SEcond worse advice I heard a corner give, after Joe Mesi being told to go after Vassily Jirov in the last round of their fight.

Chambers win was with at most a 1 point differential, whereas Wlad was winning every round prior to knocking him out.

Chagaev was way past prime (he was past it in the fight with Wlad too, but deteriorated and had 2 very lackluster performances against low level opposition)

and finally, Chris Byrd, the guy that Wlad RUINED by that awful one sided beating and the same guy that later moved down to light heavy and got droppd by a nobody. By the way, Wlad beat PRIME BYRD. Povetkin beat a crippled shadow.
