Work it out Russell atsch. Berto was beaten in his last fight by a fighter coming up in weight, so WhamBam is saying Lacy wasnt beaten in his fight before Calzaghe by a fighter coming up a weight (ie MW as Calzaghe and Lacy were SMWs). Get it now :thumbsup
Nope not at all.. Lacy at the time started to believe in his hype that he was the second coming of Mike Tyson holifield all rolled up into one. He got away from what got to the top, which was putting his punches together and boxing with both speed and power. After lacy became champ he digressed into a face first fighter. I don't see Berto inheriting any of those qualities, in-fact he has been criticized as a fighter more then he been praised. Berto just so happened to lose to a fighter that hyped and more criticized then himself, which is why so much pressure is placed on him winning tonight. In fact I was a little surprised he took this fight so soon. This fight is just to see where Berto is at at welter wight , if he loses tonight his career will be pretty much tanked.
Isaac Hlatshwayo was faded and got KO'd by another so so fighter in his last fight. One trip to Africa does not make for a well traveled fighter. Zaveck has looked good against Euro level fighters. Berto, win/lose/disputed had faced far higher level fighters. Losing to Ortiz wasn't terrible. People forget that Ortiz was considered the next De LaHoya before Maidana made him quit. Ortiz is a quality fighter, far better then Zaveck or anything Zaveck has seen.
Not really. It wouldn't shock me if Berto lost. It would shock me if he got his ass kicked every single round comprehensively. Many people have felt Berto was a hype job on here for a while. Anything less than relative unknown Zaveck dominating every second of every round just couldn't compare to the demolition Calzaghe put on Lacy.
I was in Espanja when I saw Zaveck fighting for the first time. It was against Jorge Daniel Miranda (2007). Miranda started fight with a flurry and had Zaveck trouble in those early rounds. Zaveck seemed to be little bit confused and couldn't get his rhytm. So Zaveck was getting beaten up and his eye was bleeding after three rounds. I'm pretty sure that it was caused by a punch and so was the audience and Miranda. Fight was stopped after three rounds and surprisingly it was announced as a technical draw. Zaveck was disappointed about his performance and it was sure that he knew he was lucky to get that no contest. Miranda was angry and couldn't understand the desicion. That's the Zaveck fight I have seen. I wasn't impressed that time but it looks like he has improved quite a well. And he had a rematch against Miranda and he finished that unfinished business with a twelve round knockout :good And it was a good upset against Isaac _________ :good Hopefully he beats Berto. This is his time to shine and his opportunity to make a same kind of job that Martinez did: to get his first BIG victory at the age of 35.
