Mikkel Kessler: "Ward should probably learn to fight outside his country sometimes"

Kessler is still the most entertaining fighter at SMW. He leaves all his heart in the ring with every single fight, a true warrior. He's capable of winning with everyone at SMW. I believe that Ward fighting on his own turf brings more problems than anyone out there at SMW. Ward was indeed using his head very often and should get at least his points deducted but oh well, in a rematch I'd go with Kessler - only if well prepared for a fighter like Ward, they indeed underrated him at first, but then again I don't think Ward would be fighting the same way if he fought on Kesler's turf.

Kessler mentality before the fight was " This kid is too green for me".
The fight was a huge reality check for him.

I think Kessler could do better against Ward, he's right.. but it wasn't just "not being there" that caused it, it was Wards sense of distance, timing and overall jab that caused Kessler to get off balance, and he tried to hook with Ward on the inside, and proved his left hook is absolutely horrendous to watch.

Ward schooled him, there are no ifs and buts about it. But then again, Kessler could come and have a rematch on neutral ground and I think there's a rather huge appeal for that fight again.

 

Dude, you don't have a clue. Look at the score cards again. Kessler did not lose 10 rounds on the scorecards.

Even though he got away with some Illegal tactics, Ward still deserved the victory that night.. He clearly wanted it more, and came in far better prepared..

 

Still more than any of the top SMW's :good..

Hard to compare though.

USA is a massive country, bigger than all of western europe, and has a huge boxing scene. Traditionally US fighters havent had to leave the US as the big money fights have alwasy been in the US anyway.

The points difference through 10 was 5 and 6. This means that the judges in Oakland said Kessler won 2-3 of the 10. Those rounds were probably before the concussive head-buts had removed eyesight etc.

 

So.. traditionally Americans have had an advantage - and that is the reason why Americans should continue to have an advatage.

Probably not but we don't know for sure. Did anyone think Tyson would lose to Douglas, or Lewis would lose to Rahman (and both of those results happened in foreign countries btw)?

Ward has been given every advantage in this tournament and I'm amazed by the arrogance of some who opine that it wouldn't have made a difference had he been forced to travel. Nobody knows what would have happened. Nobody can know because he has never contested a major fight outside of California.

In any case, I have a sneaking suspicion he will develop a nose bleed when he crosses the state line.
