    Hey all!

I have been boxing for a month now.

Lately i have been getting real sore middle knuckles (f.u.c.k. finger knuckles)

As i am new to boxing it is something i would expect. I have just ignored it, and kept on training. But now i feel the pain getting worse, and it is hurting my training. - as in i don't hit as hard and as much because of the pain.

Is there anyway to protect the knuckles better? other than wrapping them some more. I wrap them a lot already. Or should i take a break?

Also is it alowed to box amateur with one kidney?

sorry for bad english. it is not my native language.

Pretty common when you start boxing. If it's giving you a lot of bother, try sponges on the knuckles under the wraps.

Stop dragging them on the ground.

Get a piece of sponge and put it in your wraps. Just layering your hand wraps over you rknuckles a few more times won't do a whole lot.

Make sure you're wrapping your hands properly and maybe try using these:

If the pain persists long after training, you might want to take a break. You don't want that to get worse only to sideline you for even longer. Better to let it heal first.

Taking some ibuprofen or other NSAIDs could help you cope as well.

Hope that helps and good luck with training.

Some pain early days is normal. Rest your hands a little first. Then use plenty of layers of wrap and if necessary include some sponge as suggested above.

again thanks to all of you! Jdsm i use 16 oz. yesterday after sparring my knuckle on left hand was slightly swollen and purple. So think i'm going to take a break. eventhough i dont want to.

Edit: democritus2k are the knuckle protecters any good? do you have any personal experience with them?

I've had guys in the gym try them. When I first started I also had the same problems with sore knuckles. But by the time someone had suggested I try them my hands had gotten better so I decided to not get them.

I blame my initial problems to being overzealous when I first started training. I went as far as doing heavy bag drills 6 days a week and after a while my knuckles were just all beaten up since they weren't accustomed to that kind of stress.

Like I said earlier, if the pain persists even when you're not training, it's probably a good idea to lay off for a bit before that gets any worse.

its normal at the first few months.. obviously if u see it gettin swollen i suggest putting a sponge on the knuckle and the handwraps above them. That will work for sure

TS its normal for one's knuckles to be sore from boxing(I had the same thing when I first started). Like everyone else here stated try the sponges and if you can knuckle pushups.

How big are your bag gloves?

Your gloves might bee too small or too hard. Check the bags too. If the bags are rock hard you might need to go up a couple of ounces on your bag gloves. Instead of 12oz use 140z or 16oz (if you are a big guy).

A little knuckle aching is no problem. When it is pain? Stop training. Work on your cardio and footwork. I had a friend end up losing almost 6 months because he developed a bone chip from trying to keep training.

    Good luck.
