Does anyone here believe PACQUIAO vs CLOTTEY was a fixed fight?

Not fixed, although Pac got the inside scoop on Clottey when Roach hired Clottey's lifelong sparring partner to help Pac prepare for his style. Pac had the better camp, and better training. Pac's workrate won the fight...Most knew going in that Clottey's turtle shell defense + lack of offense was gonna cost him the fight.

Pac will always have a field day against defensive minded fighters... If Floyd jr. would fight Pac it's going to look fixed too just like with Clottey but with knock downs..

It makes no sense for Arum to pay off Clottey to lose to Pacquiao because there would have been no reason for Arum to fear that Pac would lose. Clottey and Cotto were on the same level as shown in their fight against each other, and Pacquiao steamrolled Cotto. Why would Arum need to fix a fight that Pac was clearly capable of winning on his own?

Secondly, why would Clottey agree to a fix? Clottey would have become an instant superstar by beating Pacquiao. If he wasn't a major draw before, he would have become one overnight. You know, how Buster Douglas got a bunch of endorsements AND his own video game after he beat Tyson. Mayweather would have been ALL OVER Clottey. What's better than beating Pacquiao? Beating the guys who beat Pacquiao! Clottey would have made several times the money beating Pacquiao than losing to him.

Third, a fix for a top level boxer would have to have been more than just about the money. Arum would also have to promise big opportunities. You don't tank a fight for a million and vanish. You tank a fight for a million, and then firmly establish yourself as a second best by being given fights you would not have been given before. Clottey received nothing of the sort. He made LESS money on this "fix" considering demand for his services dropped to nothing and he hasn't fought since.

If Arum offered Clottey money to tank the fight, Clottey would have said yes, proceeded to kick Pacquiao's ass, become the welterweight champ, hero to Africa, and darling of the boxing world, and then dare Arum to retaliate.

A fix simply would not have made sense for anybody.

...Yes. Arum fixed the fight...for the overwhelming favorite to win...in a boring decision. It makes perfect sense. I know if I were a promoter, I would definitely take a chance on fixing a fight, and I'd fix it for the overwhelming favorite...and make sure the underdog was very, very boring and went the distance. :deal Arum is a mother****ing genius and Clottey and Pac are frauds. Great thread.

lol, only a few months old. Rios-Antillon seems like it was only a couple weeks back. Anyway, here's a recent article about him:

Joshua Clottey waiting for legal problems to settle before returning to the ring
    August 26th, 2011

By Bradley Pearson: It’s been 17 long months since former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KO’s) was last in the ring, and with that, questions have arisen as to why the Ghanaian boxer has been ‘MIA’ for so long- in what would seem his prime years.

According to recent comments made on his personal Facebook account and official Twitter page (@_GMASTERCLOTTEY), the Top Rank fighter reveals he has yet to settle a legal dispute with a “former manager” before he can make his long awaited ring return.

Clottey, 33, wrote: “I know my fans are worry about my return to the ring and I even want to fight today but I will be happy fighting without my ex manager for personal reasons thanks fans”. He went on to later add- “Just be patient for me cos our dispute is at the court so soon judgement will come. I will bounce back big for my fans”.

It’s been a frustrating year for Clottey, who was forced to pull out of his scheduled clash with Calvin Green back in March due to a freak accident suffered during a routine run. Negotiations also broke down later in the year for a potential match-up with former welterweight champion Kermit Cintron back in July. Instead, the Puerto Rican puncher went on to lose to Carlos Molina on the night the Clottey bout would’ve taken place.

The ‘Grand Master’ has often expressed his desire for rematches with both Miguel Cotto (36-2, 29 KO’s) and Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KO’s) on numerous occasions in the past and with the two facing off this December, Clottey may perhaps be looking to secure a fight with the winner, sometime in 2012.

It must be lonely bunch being part of the true Mayweather fan club. If a miracle happens and Ortiz beats Mayweather or makes him look bad, heads will explode...:lol:

Who would pay to see Clottey after that farce of a collect-cash performance from him last year?

    This is ******ed.

    1. Clottey always fights this way; people saying he never takes a punch without giving one back, so if we saw Pac throwing 1000 punches we'd see Clottey, who isn't known for his high work rate, return 1000 punches of his own? :patsch

    2. He didn't even do anything while he was "walking through his punches" last I recall it was Clottey and not Margarito in the ring that night. If you meant low damage, that's because he was guarding. What's occupied while you're guarding? O that's right your hands. If he opened up his hands more, his face is more prone to getting damaged.

    3. Of course Clottey did damage with so little. It's because he PICKED AND CHOSE his shots. That's his style. He's more of a "you done? Ok my turn" kind of fighter, but unfortunately Pac never let him have his turn. Clottey isn't a high workrate Morales who interrupts a combo with a combo of his own.

4.. There's probably an agenda underlying this claim because it is the only fight of Pac's resume at WW where *****s can't say his opponent was drained/shot/old/leftovers/made to order.
