One of the greatest Jr. Lightweights of all time. Up there with Arguello and Saddler at that weight I think. Destroyed prime Roger Mayweather in their first fight.
obvious troll thread, but chavez can be grossly overrated. i've seen P4P ATG lists with him in the top ****ing 10! he lost a fair few fights before actually officially losing. which is bull****. most of his best wins are over, well, contenders of the era and his win over taylor is very controversial. an ATG? of course. hall of famer? indeed. amazing fighter? absolutely. top 25 ATG boxer? **** no.
Not even top 100 all time. I rank Jose Luis Castillo above him. The guy had no defense, no athletic ability. Just had a hard head.
:rofl Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed. If you got hate in your heart let it out! I recommend a good dose of meditation, tai chi and yoga to relax your troubled mind. And get laid, life is too short to be jealous of the accomplishments of another man.
You saw his fight against Randall, Wise, Whitaker, DLH? IT wasn't old age but speed that exposed him.
Keep in mind people, the ref is not there to decide if the fighter can last those last few seconds, his decision is to decide whether the fighter is fit to continue period. Thats it. The rule is the same whether its the first round or the last 10 seconds of the last round. Steele made the right call and of you disagree, find some recent Meldrick Taylor interviews.
Taylor had a long career of taking punishment in fights and in the gym. His health now has little bearing on whether or not Steele should have stopped it. Tough to narrow it down to just one fight when you have a long career in this sport, and take as much punishment as Taylor did. It's not as if he suddenly starting becoming unintelligible after Chavez. Personally, I blame Duva quite a bit for distracting MT during crucial moments and for later Team Taylor cashed out on him against Norris.
Morales, Barrera, and JMM aren't in the JCC, Saldivar, Olivares, Sanchez class. Great fighters though. And this thread sucks.
Or Roger Mayweather, whom JCC clobbered at Jr. Lightweight (JCC's best weight). At 130 JCC was an all time great.
