what time is the MMA card? A boxing PPV usually starts at 9PM EST, with the main event at 11:30PM.

UFC event is only an hour long and is scheduled to end way before pacquiao/marquez main event.

That's such an annoying myth. No one goes from zero to legit pro mma fighter in six months, much less to become a champ. The people that do it quickly have had years of training in boxing or kickboxing or (more likely) wrestling or BJJ before they start mma and that 100% counts.

It's true though that boxing is pretty dead to the majority of the country. IMO it was killed by things like karate/TKD becoming popular (moms like the idea of their kid learning to "defend themselves" and "gaining confidence" where training by and large doesn't involve hard sparring and getting punched) and the fact that's people don't need to be able to beat up someone one-on-one to feel tough anymore. For some reason, shooting someone or beating them up with a few friends counts now, so spending tons of time and sweat and pain learning how to do it doesn't have the huge upside that it used to have. And once people stop doing it, they stop understanding it and they start to find it boring. Pernell Whitaker was a genius but because a lot of people didn't get what he was doing he wasn't the star he would have been, say, before 1970.

I remember when we were told Quinton v Chuck was going to kill boxing. UFC ran a PPV against PBF v JMM and got ***** slapped.

If only boxing had a good HW division.

Lorenzo already said the UFC on Fox card is gonna conclude before the Pacquiao/Marquez ppv even begins.

This is such a non issue.

The UFC card should have no effect on the card for the best competitor in combat sports.

If you can't admit that, you're just too bitter. It takes a genius and a crazyguy to essentially launch a new sport.

There's a big step up from the introduction of the UFC to what Zuffa did with it. For the most part, the UFC was a barbaric free for all for most of its early days. I wouldn't say it could be classified as a sport back then. It was a contest.

Are you kidding? That was ****ing awesome! It's one of the most legendary moments in sports history! Sure at the time we were gutted because the fight was stopped so early, but you'd already seen these guys fight. The bite was an incredible moment in sports history. It was the defining moment of boxing's biggest celebrity superstar since Ali.

So they adopted the rules written for them by the Nevada Athletic Commission and put into place by the previous owners and then used Casino $$$ to buy up the competition

That's creating a monopoly not a sport, slight difference
