Well, it is definitely not a myth. Gamboa was lucky to draw 2k in Atlantic city. The track record doesn't lie my friends. I'm not saying it to be a dick, it's just a harsh reality.
Sorry Compadre, but Gamboa was bored and disinterested in there against De Leon. You can tell by the way that he moved, looked at him and acted. Gamboa didn't came in the fight to knock Ponce out, he came in to box some rounds. And it was proven that everytime Gamboa put on some offensive he hit Ponce clean and hard but did you notice how he didn't finish the job? The problem is that most fans already have a built in mentality about Gamboa and it was the same mentality that Tyson fans had back in the days. If Tyson didn't KO his opponent then he looked bad. You guys have to understand that a complete boxer is the one who can do both things, box and KO at the same time. Gamboa proved that besides being a KO artist he is also a great boxer whenever he decides to box. Ponce couldn't find him, couldn't hardly hit him. And by the way, Gamboa did get hit a couple of times pretty hard on his chin by the powerful Ponce and nothing happened. That ends the bad chin myth. :good
It has to do with the fact that 95% of USA based Cubans are white. The vast majority of Cuban boxing fans are Black and those are inside the Island! USA based white Cubans mostly follow Baseball and that's it! :good
you sound like a butt-hurt Cuban fan. You guys are not realistic about the quality level of your fighters. You think noone wants to fight Cuban fighters, but you're wrong.
Actually it's less than 50 boxers, more like 30 or so. So in a way yes, I would say that the Cubans have the least amount of pro boxers campaigning in the pros from the top Latin Countries and they have around 5 World Class boxers in Solis, Lara, Gamboa, Rigondeaux and YP Hernandez. That's a pretty big number for such a small group! And there are many other Cubans close to the World class level like Luis Franco, Luis Ortiz, Yudel Jhonson,Yoandry Salinas, Mike Perez etc ... I will keep on saying it, what would happen when Cuba finally opens up? Whatever success we have now, multiplied by 5!!! It will happen someday ...
Honestly i've never been so impressed with Vanes. And the guy barks more than what he bites.Just freaked out to fight Angulo after so much noise. After fighting Williams i believe Lara has jumped to another level.
I go with Lara too. Lara looked pretty good against Williams. But draw agaisnt Carlos Molina(Who is not a bad fighter with any meaning) he looked maybe little flegmatic(?) like he doesnt give his all sometimes:think.. I did not like him at beginning but grown on him especially after schooling he put on Paul Williams... Well it is just matter of time when he holds a title...
Molina beat Chavez Jr twice (got robbed)and Cintron. He is not a bum,but Lara didnt bring his A game for whatever reason.I would love to see a rematch.Against Williams he fought a masterpiece but we know the outcome. Hope u are righ about the title :good
I've always said it , they ( promoters ) only risk their fighters against cubans as long as there's a " title " in between or a mandatory , they won't even take a risk against 2nd level cubans like Barthelemy ( Sedas ) and now with Arums recent comments about the cubans boxing school being the best in the world it's going to be more difficult to see good prospects fighting them , it's a sad situation , it's all about money ( future earnings ) nowadays . Peace .
