The thing that annoys me most is that they are all rubbish at analysing boxing. The likes of Roy Jones, Manny Steward can see sort of the bigger picture in a fight and can predict accurately what might happen in rounds to come. The Sky guys use nothing but cliches and soundbites and offer nothing I don't think one of the guys on here who has never boxed couldn't offer. (Just read that sentence back, good luck making sense of it)

 

They're always doing that - changing their minds after the event. Watt's the worst.

 

They did'nt sound too biased and nationalistic the other night when Nelson and Moore were talking about how Sai got robbed.

 

Nelson’s a hack, he simply parrots whatever his opposite number says, or whatever he feels makes him sound daring. He’s got no analytical skills, shows zero knowledge of the sport, and frequently gets things wrong then tries to excuse his pick.

****, if only they had wee Barry every week. Even when I disagree with him, at least he makes a fair point using actual knowledge and he admits when he’s wrong.

Specifically, Sky is UK-centric, but HBO is US-centric (but better at discussing the fight holistically). Remember the Williams-Martinez commentaries? Shameful focus on Williams and, hilariously, his “iron chin” in the sequel.

 

I agree about Nelson although at least he called the Cox fight on Friday for the robbery that is was. I think his exact words were that it stank.

 

Can't remember which one said it, but at the start of one round one of the commentators was talking about how Prescott must have had a clear lead on the scorecards. McCloskey started the round well and 30 seconds later he's saying how Dudey had turned the fight around. What the ****? Was he scoring it 10-7?

 

It was ****in ridiculous at times. They were rounds to McCloskey for being agressive even though he just stood in front of Prescott at times and did nothing.atsch

 

Iv actually got time for woodhall he talks sense. As does Jamie Moore he doesn't bull**** you and can intelligently analyse a fight.

Woodhall moore and Spencer Oliver are the best pundits by a mile.
Darke is the best for commentary.

 

I suppose it's the us against the world mentality that creeps into our commentator's when one of our fighters boxes a foreign opponent. Sadly it's to much and gets rather annoying as you say Gooners. I can understand the night Bruno beat McCall that was impossible not to get emotional about.

I just feel the guys above either force this philosophy of commentating on the British fighter or need to address it. I'm a fan of fighters not country's when it comes to Professional Boxing.

 

he didnt say 'hes now ahead on the scorecard' he said 'hes turned the fight around' which means something else and to be fair to him he was half right

 

Commentary for the fight on Saturday was disgraceful, they ignored almost everything Prescott did in the later rounds, Awful.

It seems very dumbed down, like sky think we are just a bunch of goons. Most of those who got the Haye V's Audley fight don't know who Jimmy Wild is, they definitely don't discuses him on message boards, but a good number that watched Jamie McDonnell and Paul McClosky do. They should assume we know a fair bit and are fans of the sport first and foremost.

 

Every fight should be an even match up thus all involved should be talking about what both guys can and can't do. Every fight bar the first 10 where most guys are learning their trade.

Duke McKenzie was the worse. Mcguigan is quite bad too. According to those guys if all of our boys jab then they will be world champions.

Maybe the British scene is small so they don't want to criticise each other enough or it will come back on them i.e. when Groves called Nelson on criticising him.

It is all geared towards the mainstream fan. The mainstream fan won't tune into Prescotts next fight and it probably won't be on Sky. They may however tune into McCloskeys next fight.
