War of Generations Preview “Ace Boxing Promotions”
    September 15th, 2011Stephen HounslowNo comments

Friday the 16th of September, 2011 at Mansfield Tavern, Brisbane, Queensland, Angelo Di Carlo and Ace Boxing promotions puts on possibly the most evenly contested Friday night fights card of the year.

The night consists of two Australian titles and two 50/50 fights between some of Australia’s fastest rising stars, with the night paving way for two other fighters to make their mark to the boxing audience of Australia.

The venue at the ever popular Mansfield Tavern will host 6 fights and Di Carlo’s 4th televised card of the year. Di Carlo is Australia’s fastest rising promoter and has built his reputation for providing all out action affairs by ensuring his fighters are testing themselves with every fight.

The main fight of the night is possible the most anticipated when the Light Middleweight Australian title is up for grabs between two very tough Queenslanders in Tyrone ‘The Cyclone’ Tongia (16-2-0) and James J Giltrow (12-2-0), eith both fighters expected to come forward and explode from the opening bell, I’m expecting the durable Tongia to bring an end to the fight in the 7th. Tongia has had an amazing string of victories in his last 5 fights and has the more experience in the all-out wars.

The semi main and the first of the Australian titles is up for grabs in the Super Middleweight division, when late replacement Omar Shiack (8-2-0) steps in for Australia’s hottest prospect Trent Broadhurst (7-0-0) when he fights one of Australia’s toughest journeyman Josh ‘The Chainsaw’ Clenshaw (29-19-0) over 10 gruelling rounds, when an exhibition of no stop boxing is expected.

In a 50-50 fight this contest should be one for the ages in Fox Friday night fights, when the young lion heart takes on the cagey Lion.

In an entertaining 6 round contest fan friendly Tyrone Jones of Queensland (5-0-0-) takes on spoiler Callan Orchid (5-2-0) of Victoria, in what is a good old fashioned pick em. I expect this fight to challenge for fight of the night and is fought at the 175 pound limit.

Aaron Russell (3-1-0), will be looking to bounce back from a bizarre stoppage in his last fight against Callan Orchard, when he takes on slick fighter Lyndon Edney (3-1-0). Russell and Edney is a very interesting contest at Light Heavyweight and is another quality matchup by Ace, that you would be fool to not sit back and enjoy instead of scoring.

The night is rounded out by 2 potentially exciting fights that could be fought in a phone box.

Mark Ramirez is scheduled over 4 rounds with fan favourite Kyle Teer at Light Welterweight.

Jake Moulden will make his television debut against Ashley Vandevelde in his second bout when the lights are dimmed and the ref instructs both men the distance is 4 rounds many expect fireworks.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or by contacting Ace Boxing promotions at aceboxingpromotions.com.

The Courier Mail is a tabloid rag. But the article is better than no
    publicity at all.

Should be a good night. I'll be watching on Fox. :thumbsup

Tyrone relinquished the title after he beat Gosden. Retired actually.

Then he came back and challenged for it in June against Pat Rullo.

So really his first defence as Champion.

    Thats my guess?

    from Boxio Mundial - 19th Sept 2011:

    Mansfield, Australia:

Light Middle: Tyrone Tongia (17-2) W TKO 8 James Giltrow (12-3). Super Middle: Omar Shaick (9-2) W PTS 10 Josh Clenshaw (29-20). Some battle this. Tongia, boxing at range, took the first ,but from then on the sheer aggression of Giltrow denied Tongia the room he needed. Giltrow set an unbelievable pace throwing hooks and uppercuts with both hand and turning the fight into a brawl. It was toe-to-toe for round after round. In the fourth with heads banging together Giltrow was cut over both eyes, with the left being the more serious. Tongia was still unable to find the room for his strong jab, but Giltrow was slowing due to the pace he was setting.

In the seventh there was a break as the Doctor looked at the injury by Giltrow’s left eye, but the fight continued. At the end of the round Tongia finally got through with heavy punches and Giltrow was on shaky legs. Giltrow had a final fling in the eighth but suddenly Tongia had him hurt again, and a right uppercut had Giltrow falling face first to the canvas. The towel came in from Giltrow's corner as the referee was counting. The Papua New Guinea born Tongia is known as “The Cyclone” but it was the brave Giltrow who was all-action and was ahead on all three cards at the end of the seventh.

Tongia, 28 is now unbeaten in his last eight fights, and retains the Australian title in his second defence. He has nine wins by KO/TKO. This was the first inside the distance loss for Giltrow, 26 a former Australian welterweight champion.

Southpaw Shaik, 24, picked up the vacant Australian title as he out boxed veteran Clenshaw and won a wide unanimous verdict on scores of 100-91 twice and 100-90. Shaick had been unsuccessful in a shot at the middleweight title. “Chainsaw” Clenshaw is a former Australian light middle and middle champion, but has now lost three of his last four fights.
