My classic opinion on Mayweather vs Ortiz

Casual fans don't really know Victor Ortiz, but they do know Floyd Mayweather. Given that Floyd is a proven commodity selling Ortiz's personality makes sense. He's taken the role of the good guy and Floyd is once again the villian and it keeps fans interested enough that they ignore what could easily be a technical mismatch.

Ortiz is a good fighter and could make it interesting but I expect Floyd to beat him.

 

This may be Mayweather-Gatti II.

Ortiz has one thing going for him -I think he's likely to go right at Floyd and fight him right. And if power like his catches any superior technician, well, Victor ain't gonna lay off like Meek Mosley.

I agree with Magoo that Floyd represents Jerry Springer's America, and you don't call your father a mutha ****a in front of millions (and that wasn't an act, people unless Floyd is Meryl Streep in disguise), but he deserves alot of credit for taking this kid on. This kid is strong, relaxed, resilient, and he's fighting for redemption.

 

Yea I wish 24/7 showed extensive sparring, I'd like to see what mile times each fighter is managing with their road work, a breakdown of what Ortiz managed his triathlon in (I don't think it was a good time looking at it but maybe he hasn't got the swimming technique).

Does anyone think Mayweather doesn't work half as hard as he makes out? I mean he never looks like he's pushing himself to the limits of his stamina. All that 'hard work pays the bills' - he didn't look like he was pushing himself that hard. When he's sparring he looks to fight at his own pace from the little of it I've seen. He doesn't look like he runs that fast in his roadwork either. He says he trains harder now than when he was younger too

Looking at his heavy bag work I also don't think he has great powerpunching technique is great, that's why he has bad hands and isn't a big puncher imo

As for his fitness, against the highest workrate he's faced in Hatton he took breaks throughout the round.

Still a great boxer and great skillset

 

Im surprised so many are buying into the b.s. around this fight. Ortiz is tailor made for Mayweather. Any guy who gets beaten by someone as slow as Maidana and draws with Peterson is not beating Mayweather. I think Mayweather is vastly overrated, and cherry picks his competition but what he does he does well and Ortiz will play right into this.

 

I am cheering for Victor as well.

I am predicting a 7-10 round stoppage for Floyd Mayweather. I give Ortiz a punchers chance and that is all. And with a guy as solid and durable as Mayweather, it's going to take a lot of those.

Ortiz is a likable guy and seems to be in terrific shape but unless Floyd has gotten old over night I see a welter weight version of Holmes - Bey ... Floyd is not just physically better but so much mentally stronger ... Ortiz seems to me as if he's on the verge of crying each episode ... the way his skin swells up , I just don't see it ...

 

i agree that ortiz is tailor made for mayweather but i don't agree that floyd cherry picks his opponents. hopefully he will fight manny in may and all this ducking nonsense about floyd will stop. btw, i can't stand floyd.
