    Why exactly?

8-9% is not unhealthy and is easily achievable.

Actually most see abs at 10% or below (full 6 pack that is).

How did you work this one out? Maybe he's "skinny fat" skinny with high bodyfat and no muscle.

My abs are pretty visible and I have a pretty athletic build I like to think. But I'm still not completely satisfied. I can't see my lower two abs, my upper four are alright, but they only really show up in the right light. I know most of you will probably think "Who gives a ****", but I've always wanted to have a full six pack that juts out like models you see in fitness magazines.

Hey give me more credit than that  . I'm not fully jacked or anything, but I've been working out for 5 years now.

So I guess I should be shooting for 8-9% then? I was just wondering if I just didnt have prominent lower abs in my genes, and maybe it was genetically impossible for me (some people can apparently get 8-packs, while others can't).

Haha. That wasn't directed at you specificly, just that saying "if your 6foot tall and you weigh 150 and 11.3% bodyfat you should be ripped and muscular. If thats not the case, then the bf reading is wrong." is stupid.

Men store a lot of fat around the midsection, this is why you have to get into the single digets to get a full 6-8 pack. 90% of the work is diet, get that sorted along with decent cardio and there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to get down to 8%.

i got my calculations by minusing a lil from each of the other dudes numbers. but neways, these numbers u guys r talking about r high from what i have heard. maybe the technology has gotten better readings, but i remember years ago i heard of body builders being as low as 1 or 3% body fat. (can't remember exactly) also, RECENTLY i have read that around 7% is when u start to c ur six pack very clearly.

3% is essential to life, so 1% is impossible. 10% is when most start seeing their abs. Men's Health cover models are around 8% as an example.

I wouldnt waste my time with the stats bantered around this thread. Most of them have been augmented courtesy of a stiff Heineken Beer. The average man on the street has a BF of around 15-20% if his healthy. Professional athletes have BF`s of 11% and under. Bodybuilders and boxers who dry out have BF`s that are dangerously low at 5-6% and in some cases even lower. This is extremely dangerous as the only layer of fat left is that which covers your organs. Theres only going to be a 1% fraction of guys on this forum that have a BF of around 5-6% on this board. If there BF is that low you can assume they are professional atheletes of the boxing variety because of the CV involved or bodybuilders. Theres not many on here that fit that description. Thus its fairly safe to say most of this thread is hogwash.

I can assure you 8% is a rare feat for MOST average PROFESSIONAL athletes. I played minor leage basketball my BF then was never lower than 11%. At that time it is was measured by a profesional sports scientist. I weighed a fraction under 170lbs and was literally shredded. Im now 235lbs and my BF is around 15-17%. This is normal for an average person. 8% is achievable but its rare extremely dangerous for your overall health and entirely semantic and non productive.

    Your talking absolute nonsense.

Yeah the mens health guys are 6-8%, but just for the shoot! They'd probably be that low for that day, or the days leading up to it. They aint that low all the time, christ.

So what if you never dropped below 11%? that means nothing. And nobody is "literally shredded" at 11% bodyfat.

Depending on the sport 8% is not rare at all. Please give articles and studies showing people have died from maintaining 8% bodyfat.

You dont really get it do you:think I can assure you i was shredded at 11%. I spent 10 years playing basketball and trained 5 times a week. My BF was indicative of my lifestyle because of the sport i played.Any atheletes that do alot of CV will have BF`s around those percentages. If i was you id go away and clue myself up a bit.It appears you have no concept or clue as to what a BF is how its measured, its significance (or lack of) or its effects on your overall conditioning depending on the sport you play.

Again, give articles and studies instead of trying to get rid of me. Telling me your sporting history means nothing to me. Maybe you ran 20 miles a day but had a crap diet, I don't care.
