Backed up early in the fight, had right hands landing repeatedly on him, had Floyd throwing five punch combinations for the first time since Bill Clinton was in office and ultimately his best moments might have impressed casual fans simply because he was throwing punches but he as a boxer knew he was landing next to nothing.

Was his blatantly intentional foul just the beginning of him trying to get himself disqualified out and he took the KO from Mayweather as an escape route to save a bit of face knowing these conversations would take place?

He was far too happy for a guy who felt he was in with a chance and his "Oh well, lessons learnt" speech following the fight, the lack of demand for a rematch, it just seemed like he had gotten away with something, i.e an easy out.

In the outside he might of said that, but in the inside I'm pretty sure he was pissed too. Besides he had Floyd in the ropes and was landing shots, till he effed up.

I think he was looking for two things: a way out, and a way to still look respectable doing it.

    Yes.

He had that look in his eye like saying, " come on ref you gonna do something, bail me out" Mayweather did him a favor and put the young hungry lion out of his misery.

I belive so. Floyd was really aggresive early and landing cleary. As the fight went on I belive Floyd stops him...and if he didn't Ortiz would have taken a beating.

not sure if he was trying to get up or praying for the DQ...either way, the outcome was very favorable to Ortiz. If you thought the adversity angle was being layed on thick before this fight, hold on to your hats......

Ortiz quit before the fight began. John Garfield pointed out that Ortiz seemed to be showing too much respect to Floyd before the fight. I expected him to go after Floyd much like Hatton did.

That thought did not cross my mind, so thank you to the OP.

I did, however, consider how he looked on the ground (seems I was a little slow tonight, eh chaps). When he was on the ground, I felt like he wanted to be counted out. He did not seem as if he was really unable to get up. The guy looked like he was looking for frickin' quarters for 10 seconds.

exactly. And HBO knows how to make ordinary fights look great with that 24/7 nonsense. They could have made Morales vs. Cano look like Ali/Frazier with that program and the idiotic faceoff segment with Kellerman..

I thought he would be more aggresive also.
