The "you never boxed in your life" point I don't really think is fair. Larry Merchant played other sports and was actually a very talented lineman, if memory serves me correct.

I am just saying its hard for a boxer to take any kind of harsh criticism from someone who has never boxed. Larry pulls no punches and that's a double edge sword for him, especially when your trying to interview a person who's adrenaline is still through the roof. I don't remember him congratulating Floyd at all for the win at the beginning of the interview. Its always best to start with the positive before you bring up the negative and that is why it got out of hand.

Do you see them trying to bring up the replay of the headbutt during Ortiz's interview. Nope. Larry allowed him to get away with that half-assed excuse without a problem. But he kept goading Floyd, asking him the same question 3 different ways. I mean, I don't condone what Floyd did, but what person likes to repeat themselves over and over. And you add the fact that Floyd probably doesn't like Larry. Fireworks is exactly what you get.

Larry wasn't even hating. I just rewatched the fight. Merchant said Floyd was punching while Ortiz was looking. Also it was a great performance by Floyd. When Floyd rewatches the fight, he will know he was wrong.

    That was hilarious.

I love how Larry Merchant wasn't in the slightest intimidated by Floyd... going right up to his face as he tried to walk away putting his hand on his shoulder telling him he'd kick his ass and then laughing at him.

    Larry rules.

The point of Merchant's job is to ask questions people want to hear answers to, he was asking a legitimate question about sportsmanship when Floyd spat his dummy out and reacted like a child.

    Larry KO1 Floyd.

    Absolutely spot on.

    And again spot on!

Then perhaps the geriatric old alcoholic should be commentating on one of the sports he actually has an interest in or knowledge about.
