Floyd did not do the right thing. He did the wrong thing. But he did an understandable thing, so can't really be condemned for it. The right thing to do would have been the same thing you should always do after any foul - let the referee deal with it, then go back to trying to win the fight fairly and as emphatically as possible. However, if a fighter wants to retaliate to a crazy and unprovoked headbutt, you just can't criticize him for that really. Some fighters would just never accept that sort of foul, and Mayweather has that mentality. It was Ortiz's rashness and stupidity that caused the situation. We all know Mayweather is ruthless and has no sense of honour or sportsmanship, we saw that when he suckerpunched Gatti and Mosley. But this time, it doesn't matter. He was the one who got butted, so if he chooses to retaliate there's not really much to be said about it. I'm much more angry at Cortez than at Floyd. To call box on and then stop watching the fight is utterly ****ing insane.
In boxing a "cheap shot" is either a punch during a break or pause of action, or an intentional foul. Mayweather's shots were none of the above. Unsportsmanlike to the eyes of many, but not cheap shots. Floyd didn't have to wait until Ortiz decided to start defending himself, after the ref had said 'lets go'. Cortez is incompetent and Ortiz is an idiot.
I wouldnt be so confident in that to be honest, at no point did I hear Cortez call time in nor did I hear him instruct the fighters to Box so that means if he didnt instruct the fighters to Box punches should not be thrown:good
Basically... It was underhanded, and it robbed the fans of a natural conclusion... Ortiz probably should have known though... Mayweather did it both to Gatti and Mosley...
It's both. It was a cheap shot AND he did the right thing. I don't see that he broke any rules. That Ortiz looked at the referee after getting tagged instead of getting his guard up is proof positive that he wasn't anything like as experienced enough for Floyd.
I would have done the same thing honestly. I would have been seriously pissed about the headbutt, and the last thing I would have wanted was to touch gloves or hug. I would have been looking to retaliate as soon as possible.
Get the **** out of here, he looked at the referee cus the referee never called time in or did he instruct the fighters to box..... Floyd was in a tougher fight than he expected and I think it was Floyd who found a way out, question is, was it really legal I dont even think Floyd himself when he did it thought it was legal I think Floyd did what he did and was willing to live with what ever was thrown at him, just so happens we have a ref in there who failed to do his job and maintain control.
Cortez was heard saying 'lets go' to both fighters and moving his hands together signalling them to resume fighting, before Ortiz started hugging again.
