What MIGHT have changed is that Ortiz might have put his hands up. It's POSSIBLE that a confused Ortiz didn't think the fight had resumed yet, and Cortez' looking away would have reinforced that mistake. -But it doesn't matter if it affected the outcome or not, it was still a huge blunder on the part of a ref who is also known to be corrupt, and who should have retired years ago. ------------------------------- Joe Cortez: "I'm firm, but I'm blind!" (especially if you pay me.)
Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda dont mount to a hill of beans. Cortez didnt do anything wrong or anything that all refs have done in thier careers. It was his call and he felt that the space between the two fighters was wide enough to call time in.Mayweather wasnt raging like he wanted to get at Ortiz and Oriz wasnt raging either so Cortiz felt comfortable with his decision, and so am I.:bbb:bbb:bbb
He didn't send both fighters to the neutral corner before calling time in, He didn't get in between the fighters and give a clear command to start fighting and instead He said 'let's go' and waved the fighters to continue whilsts looking away because he forgot to call time in first, and then continues to look away from what was going on in front of him looking at god knows what when he should of been paying attention. Cortez lost control of the fight totally, and in the replay you can tell Mayweather took full advantage of this and looking at the videos you can see he glances over at cortez before swinging with the left and then again before he plants the right. Mayweather could see everyone but him wasn't paying attention and captilized, even though it was cheap. Cortez caused everyone to be confused except Mayweather, and when I watched it live I was like WTF was that a legal shot, I didn't even realise that the ref had restarted the fight.
Absolutely ****ing nothing. "Lets go" is pretty simple language. What was there to misunderstand? Consider it again: "LETS ... GO" might mean what, in a boxing ring? Ortiz tried to delay the action. The kissing, hugging and cuddling was spoiling, and perhaps an attempt to provoke Floyd. Nothing else. People are as obsessed with Mayweather, as Mayweather is with the Packman, who lives in his head, by the way. Cortez could have stared his eyes out. Would not stop Floyd from punching, or Ortiz from quitting.
Cortez told them to fight and who fault is this if 1 fighter chose not too? Cortez cant make the guy fight Money is all business in the ring.
Bull****. He already deducted a point a from Ortiz, made time out, and everything. Its more than enough compared to ortiz not getting a deduction and only get warned as what you have said.
Cortez for the last few years has been slow to react to situations, lost all sharpness required to be a ref and has made some stupid and wrong decisions far too often. He will continue to do this that's the thing, messing up even more potentially great fights.
