In mainstream society the most talked about ever would be Ali, Tyson and Oscar.

 

Ali is the one boxing name that everyone knows in the UK. Posters of him are up in all the gyms I've seen. If someone knows anything about boxing, it will be that there was once a boxer called Mohammed Ali, and wasn't he the guy who said he flew like a butterfly and stung like a bee?

Tyson is definately second, and at the moment Khan and Haye come a joint third. Haye because he's such a motor mouth, and oh yes, didn't he beat the huge Russian guy? and Khan because he got a silver in the Olympics, and he's been the news enough for people to remember him.

Many people don't have a clue who Pacquiao is, or Money May. Frank Bruno is fairly well known. Chris Eubank too, but more because of the stunts he's pulled with his truck, and his eccentric personality than his boxing. Hatton. Tyson Fury's just starting to get some noteriety, chiefly due to his name.

And beyond that I wouldn't expect anyone to know anything. No one has a clue who Carl Froch is, or Nathan Cleverly.
