The only reason we have to read between the lines is because Mayweather refused to answer the part of the question that everyone was blatantly interested in hearing answered. I.e the fact that many viewed the ending as legal but very unsporting behaviour.
Probably a generational thing. Merchant like Cosell had a tendancy to get in the face of fighters, to take risks in the hope of getting good, entertaining answers from fighters. They rarely kissed fighters butts like modern day interviewers. Sometimes the technique scored spectacular and funny interviews like some of Cosell-Ali encounters and sometimes it backfires and you get a bunch of profanity thrown in your face. Merchant at his age isn't going to brownnose to any fighter he interviews and is going to ask the tough questions come what may.
I don't necessarily have a problem with him asking questions, but during commentary he regularly shits on fightersbfor no reason, not just black fighters, not just Floyd, he does it subtly but he does it. He also asked questions in a way that's condescending and arrogant, but I don't dislike him per se but I acknowledge that he's a dick and most of the time without provocation.
Your the biggest Mayweather fan on ESB. Mayweather is a G**F! After that! Suck it up while your sucking his nuts!
Money tried to play that **** off but Just like Ortizs stupid ass, Merchant didnt read the signs and Floyd went smooth off on his ass.Floyd was in check mode that night and was checkmating all bull**** at the gate.:bbb:bbb:bbb
We boxing fans discredit and criticize the boxers we love and hate. How much more for Larry, who is PAID to do so. Teddy Atlas is even worse toward Pacquiao. But Manny does not react the same as Floyd. Don't you think if Larry is a liability to HBO that he will be immediately get fired?
I've grown tired of Larry's negativity during broadcasts. Of course he has his strong points: I like the fact that he doesn't do a Jim Gray/Lebron James thing and suck up, he has wit and knowledge, but his negativity is kind of irritating. Sometimes he acts like he doesn't even care to be there and would rather be doing something else other than watching the sport ringside. "It seems to me like you got paid to do nothing tonight, Bernard" During Barrera-Morales 2: "It looks like tonight we waited for nothing". It's been obvious that he's not too fond of Floyd, even making wisecracks at Floyd's legal issues with beating up women. I don't picture him making wisecracks of the legal problems of the fighters he does like. But Floyd is an immature jackass, so in a way, they deserve each other. Larry's expression at the camera was priceless though.
So Carl Froch says that for two three years Merchants been picking in Floyd yet u can't think of any instances. I find that hilarious.
For the vast majority of floyds career he has given great performances that were lauded by those in attendance. Yet merchant behaves Like Floyd is Corey spinks. Going as far as to say that crowds dont applaud floods performances which is strange because he's gotten a standing o in his last 3 fights not counting ortiz. **** merchant didnt even know floyd fights all his southpaw opp aggressively. Seriously stop posting and go watch his commentary during the Mosley and don't interject your bias beforehand imagine he is saying this about a white or Mexican fighter
It is a Black culture thing. Takes the easy road, then boasts that he is the greastest and if some one does not agree with, their ego driven bull**** or askes a tough question they are a hater and a rasict. I remember Marchant interveiwing Hagler and shotting him down saying he needs to do a bit more to be great, but he did not react in the manner that Floyd did.
Merchant used to badmouth DLH all the time. He openly mocked his heritage. And DLH was nothing but sweet and respectful to him. The racism talk is bull****. Listen to what BHOP said before he lost to Calzaghe or stuff he said to Pavlik. Man, if a white dude said that the CIA would have gotten involved and there would have been riots and death threats and ostracization. Ya'lls just not in reality and talking smack.
