He wasn't quite as blinding putting punches together, but he was pretty close to their levels. Fast and accurate.
Good post, althogh floyd at 130/135 was defintely one of the fastest boxers ... I agree with a maority of your post. There's hope on ESB after all, lol
The creme de la creme of boxing:good Jr is the complete boxer you ever dreamed of becoming. He's fast, and can KD you so accurate like a surgeon pulling out your appendix in just 10 seconds.
I think accuracy is a more defining quality of Floyd's. He's fast no doubt, but it's how efficient and accurate he is with his punch that makes him shine on an all time P4P sense.
Yeah, just about. Certainly the fastest of his era. People say Manny is fast, but only when nothing is coming back. A lot of guys have beaten manny to the punch before. Marquez as an example. Nobody beats Mayweather to the punch
Seriously I think the argument is whether you understand what fast means......... Throwing combos doesn't mean your fast. It usually just means nothing is coming back the other way. Manny didn't throw 5 punch combos with amazing speed against Marquez. He wouldn't against Mayweather. Calzaghe threw his fists when nothing came back. He wasn't doing that with Hopkins. Being fast is nothing more than the ability to throw a shot, that the opponent doesn't see. A blindly fast strike. Be it a one punch, two, or three punch combo. Only reason Floyd doesn't throw combos, is because he doesn't need to. Truth is, Mayweather hit Marquez for fun. He was throwing shots, so fast, Marquez wasn't even seeing them. Manny was pedestrian against the same guy
Why throw one uppercut when you can throw 4 uppercuts and a hook and knock the guy out? Floyd throws one punch at a time. Watch Roy Jones Jr, punches were coming back at him from some of the ATGs and he still threw 5, or 10 punch combinations at a time. And let's not act like Pacquiao doesn't get hit or that he only fought Clottey over and over again through his career. He beat the **** out of a lot of guys who were punching the **** out of him back.
IMO Sugar Ray Leonard was faster with his hand speed,or maybe it seemed that way because Ray would throw combos like lightning. Roy at his best seemed a bit faster than Floyd but its tough to call. These two are more similar in styles as far as they both like to pot shot with one punch at a time mostly.Roy being the one willing to throw combos when needed. All in all i say yes/no.Floyd is as fast as Roy(maybe equal) and a touch less than Ray with his hands.
Agree, floyds not phyiscally fast as the people you mention. However, his reaction and timing is amazing fast. I was never impressed on his hand speed or foot speed. Its his ability to see and react that's amazing. However, SRL and ali had the total package of physical speed and the abilty to react and time there opponents.
