I dont think a hungry skilfull fighter like Floyd can go through another 3 month promotion tour and training camp for a rematch with a guy who he knew was a bum in the first place...going through allot to amp it back up and pretend like it would be a real fight worth taking serious probobly comes across as egregious to a fighter of Floyd's caliber
A lot of people were saying they didnt want to see it.. Floyd retired though is the reason he gave...wanted more time with kids n all that
From what I understand, might have been just a rumor, but Floyd Sr. was supposedly training Oscar Dela Hoya for the rematch. Initially, he was supposed to train Oscar for the first fight, but Oscar said in his autobiography that Floyd Sr. had asked for a astronomical amount of money seemingly pricing himself out of the task. However, for the 2nd fight Oscar had agreed to pay Floyd Sr whatever amount it was he demanded and that might be one of the reason's Floyd Jr didn't want the rematch. Personally, I favored Oscar in the first fight until I found out Floyd Sr had left their camp. I think with FLoyd Sr, if Oscar wasn't completely faded by then, he would have done a lot better and maybe even won. So many people forget that Floyd only one the first fight by a point or two. Floyd Mayweather is a great fighter but I think his father knows more about him than any other trainer you could get. Even when they were arguing on 24/7 if you listen closely Floyd Sr says to his son "they gone find out the truth about you" I don't know what he was talking about, but he knows more than Freddie Roach as it relates to his son.
Definitely would have been interesting. A pretty old ODLH got close to beating a prime Mayweather. I just wonder why Floyd cancelled the fight.
The first fight was a close but clear victory for mayweather. Delahoya was not a bum at 154 but since when does that stop floyd from hyping and fighting?
Your essentials for tonight are as follows: A bottle of Scotch A handgun The balls to blow your ****in head off
All about dat money money money. I believe the fight was also being negotiated at a catchweight between 147 and 154, or at 147. After seeing how mediocre Oscar looked against Forbes then that should leave no doubt about the outcome of any fight below 154.
