    Cheers,

It's a shame though. There could have been a couple of great fights made for him and really cemented his legacy if he had won. I rate him highly anyway. The stoppage against Duran was bull****.

Yes holyfield did brilliant but i'm away from my computer.

I define noteworthy as ring top ten rated or a title holder. I'll look into your suggested amendments.

Utter bull****. Once a fighter is past his prime losses stop counting against him.

Do you think it would held against hopkins's legacy if he lost to dawson? Ofcourse not. Yet it clearly enhances his legacy should he beat him.

Would it have been held against tommy's legacy if hill beat him? Ofcourse not yet it clearly enhanced his legacy.

If holyfield beats wlad it clearly enhances his legacy, if wlad beats holyfield it doesn't hold against him.

Roberto's losses at lmw put a ceiling on how high he can be rated for me because he was far from great in that division. Simms, laing, benitez, hearns all beat him at the weight. His wins over moore and barkley are enough to edge him above gans and into my top ten. But I don't really see him being top 5 unless you put an emphasis on h2h and you really appreciate his skillset.

Gans had a similar career dominating a lw division and beating the greatest ww of his time (under modern scoring he'd have won but under the era's scoring it's a draw) but a change in rule set doesn't change his effectiveness in the ring that night and it's arguably just as effective as duran was against sugar. However gans then moved back down whereas roberto carried on moving up with sporadic success.

Better brush up on your comprehension skills cause, I never claimed Duran beat Hagler, I said he held his own against him. You can't say what Hagler should or shouldn't have done, it is what it is. Nor did I say Barkley was great. As for the height difference, better read up son. After your post I went to boxrec to see if my memory was correct and Duran is listed at 5' 7" and Barkley at 6'1" that adds up to a 6 inch difference according to the math I learned.

We all know you hate Duran, but everything I said about his was factually correct.

Leonard was biggest, and Cuevas. Palomino refused to fight, was getting ready to go into acting and just clinched whole bout. Davey Moore fight was a sham, Moore was sick when he entered ring, had tooth infection.

I think if Duran trained for rematch with Leonard he would have won. Buchanan fight was good performance, although he cheated to win with low blow. He was going to most likely get decision.

Those title fights in Panama were great at times, like Lampkin bout, but guys coming in knew everything was stacked against them. Dictator was Trujlio (sp?) and he would sit ringside, as Panamanian judges (all three judges every bout in panama) and ref (every title defense in Panama) were working fights. No way 3 judges and ref were going against Duran, an in Lampkin bout, he was in it, could have went for decision, but was forced to stand and slug knowing he would not get decision. It cost him fight.

well your work at finding those fights and tallying up the wins and losses is great. It is easy for me to count the fighters and make amendments, you did the actual work. You know what? I think I made the mistake. You mentioned notable fighters Duran and Hearns and others fought, and I went by notable fights.. I took the rematches and added the two fights. That could be it, which would make it 27 fights, but if it was notable fights then it was 29.
As for Evander, he fought so many top fighters, I cannot imagine many guys fighting more than he did, although he only has 50 or so fights surprinsingly, yet he did fight Qawi when he had 12 fights I think. Most fights after that were notable I think.

Barkley was not 6 inches taller than Duran no matter what. Duran was 5-7 1/2 maybe 5-8 and Barkley probably more like 6 1/2. The most I would say is 4 inches or 4 1/2. My point about Duran and Hagler was Duran held his own but he did not really get close to knocking out Marvin or beating him. It was up to Marvin to pore it on and win later rounds and he did. If you sit back and let Duran get a rhythm and are in his range he will hit you. Leonard after the first fight and Hearns and Benitez did not let Duran get a rhythm. I remember at the end of the Hagler/Duran fight Duran was getting worked over, and when the bell rang he changed acted like he was still fresh acting a little macho and Marvin waved at him like saying give me a break.

now you have to brush up on your comprehensive skills. I never said I hated Duran. What I argue about is how he can be rated so high for not beating many greats. His resume is good. Exceptional. but not 1-10 ATG level.

Thanks, i'm a qualified statistician and data sorting is something I can't help but do.

When I return to my computer i'll post my findings on him but by memory he's something like 26-9 against notable opponents by my scorecard.

I've actually done this for every hof fighter of the last 30 years and I intend on posting the full results in the classic forum.

Look whether you directly say you don't like Duran, or not, it's more than obvious to all who read your posts you don't.

Just look at your reply. You're arguing about whether Barkley is 4.0 inches taller than Duran or 6.0 inches. yet anyone who actually watches the fight can see for themselves there's a huge height difference and Boxrec confirms it, yet you want to minimize it.

Then there's the Hager fight. Instead of giving Duran prop's for getting in the ring with an ATG middleweight and going to distance you minimize the accomplishment by saying

"he did not really get close to knocking out Marvin or beating him."

Yet the judges scorecards read 142-144, 145-146, 143-144 in favor of Hagler. But how's that not a close fight?

Of course he came close to beating him, there's no other way to interpt these scores.
