So if left hook was a sucker punch why not block the right?

Totally agree with that. Which was why I was telling those people - who were making a case for an Ortiz upset - they shouldn't be fooled by the Berto fight into thinking Ortiz would have a chance. In fact, I cited the exact same things you've said there, when explaining how Floyd could get a late TKO.

However, at the point of the knockout, I don't think Ortiz was at that stage where he was ready to go. He was still fighting with confidence.

No, I am saying that once a fighter (not just Floyd) gets to a certain level you choose low risk high reward fights. As fans it may seem like BS to us, but understand that the days of fighting to prove you are the best are more so for up and comers (gamboa, alvarez, nonito, etc..) where as ATG vets (floyd, Pac, etc...) have paid there dues and it is fighting people with big names.

nah man and I defintely see where you are coming from but he had been trying to headbutt him for the past 2 rounds. He knew he couldn't do anything to stop Floyd so he resorted to illegal tactics.

Just becuase he landed a few flurries here and there doesn'e mean he was confident, he still was missing a lot and geting hit a lot. He may have not have quit like he did in the maidana fight (No mas) but he mentally quit and took the opportunity to stay down. But all in all we agree to disagree

Honestly, I think Ortiz was getting Floyd.

At least after I rewatched the fight. I've never seen Floyd look so vulnerable.

He was missing a lot of punches, throwing with a lot of intensity, working much harder than usual, and still Ortiz was walking through his punches to land his own.

Mayweather also neglected going to the body, and Ortiz was starting to time Mayweather and capitalize off his mistakes.

For instance, in the 4th round when Mayweather stepped foward with that right hand he was caught off balance, and Ortiz waited for Mayweather to come up from below and landed a solid left hand and followed it up with a right hook and several punches that did LAND.

Mayweather was taking more punishment than I've ever seen him take in years. Mayweather also neglected the body attack as the fight progressed while Ortiz was conserving his energy and landing a signficant number of body punches that Mayweather did not block.

Mayweather just couldn't hurt Ortiz and Ortiz knew it. And it's easy to say Ortiz would fade, but given the particulars of the fight, it was Mayweather who was throwing more punches with a lot intensity, and neglecting a body attack that he introduced in the first round, but failed to follow up on.

Ortiz continued a solid body attack, attacked in spurts, and was using his size and strength to overcome Mayweather and before the headbutt, was beggining to turn the tide of the fight.

It's possible that Mayweather would live up to his reputation as a gym rat and his stamina would allow him to finish the fight relatively unscathed, but that was not what was starting to happen.

    So YES...

I agree with you, but I also don't think it's out of the question that there was a stipulation in the Ortiz vs Mayweather contract that said if it comes down to it, Ortiz has to take a dive.

    Think about it like this...

Once Mayweather loses his 0, his marketability will fall drastically. He makes $50 million dollar paydays as it is.

It would benefit him the most to make a deal with his opponent and pay them several million under the table as long as Mayweather stays undefeated.

It's a great way to run a business in my opinion.

Although...I can't prove any of this and I'm not even sure I believe it...

    But it is plausable.

Perhaps that's why he's in no rush to negotiate with Pac because Pac demands almost equal pay days, and doesn't speak much English anyway and may have a different value system.

Either way, we'll see what Mayweather does next.

No way he rematches Ortiz, but if he does...he gets MAJOR PROPS. Honestly, I see Mayweather going the route of fighting Khan...

Yeah I hear you. Like I said, I am huge fan of Mayweather since his days at 130/135, but this a business. I dont think it was fixed but it could have been. But if thats the case do we ask was pac vs. Oscar, Clottey, margarito fixed?

If you look at it this way, prety much all big time fights would be fixed then. But point taking

Don't Sleep - soon as I saw "wrecked" I immediately looked over at your profile to see if you were from DC lol. Another hometeam guy here...what's good? Sup to you and Round1gym.

And no one can tell me Clottey/Pacquiao wasn't fixed. Clottey had ample time to let his hands go, and numerous opps to counter.

Ortiz got what he deserved. Drop your hands in the middle of a fight - get knocked the **** out. This is possibly the dumbest move by a boxer since Nate Campbell dropped his hands against Robbie Peden.

Mayweather did not need to pay him off, Victor's biggest obstacle his himself and his mental instability....Had the KO not occurred it would have been a later stoppage........The Maturity and inexperience difference are far too great....Mentally/Psychologically Floyd is light years above Ortiz.

I box and trust me, my first reaction is to duck. if I'm in an awkard position then I'd put my hands up.
If I see somebody throw something in my periphrial vision, I have a relfex to duck from all my head movement training.

And they don't even have to be throwing it at me. If i just see it flying in the air, my reflex will kick in
