Mayweather vs Ortiz: Who won the 4th round before the headbutt?

    This is my play by play

    - Mayweather is flicking the jab, trying to set up the right hand. You see this as missing punches. Guys who know boxing see this as Floyd trying to set up his right hand.

    - Mayweather gets Ortiz to step into a right uppercut. Proceeds to land 11 (I counted unanswered punches) The announcers go wild

    - Ortiz gets Floyd to ropes. Misses, lands a punch to the back of Floyds head

    - Ortiz lunges in. Floyd catches him with a left hook.

    - Floyd pawing with the left hand again. Lands a straight right. Not much power behind it

    - Mayweather catches Ortiz with a left uppercut, and a right cross flush

    - Ortiz catches Floyd with a left and right hand as Floyd is trying to circle away. Gets Mayweather to ropes. Ortiz proceeds to miss almost everything. The announcer is screaming at Ortiz to go to the body because Ortiz is missing all his punches

    - Floyd proceeds to hit Ortiz with right hands, Ortiz whiffs big on a left (Announcer "Ortiz is swinging for the fences, he's missing by a mile")

    - Ortiz gets Floyd to the ropes. Cant land anything clean. Tries to head butt Mayweather and gets warned

    - Ortiz whiffs big on a left hand. Gets a right to the back of Floyds head.

    - Ortiz whiffs big on another left. Floyd counters with a straight right down the pipe

    - Mayweather pawing with the jab, misses with 2 left hooks as Ortiz is backing up, catches Ortiz with a flush right hand that stops Ortiz in his tracks

    - Mayweather catches Ortiz with another big right hand

    - Mayweather hits Ortiz with a left hook and straight right hand. Nothing with much power

    - Mayweather catches Ortiz with a right uppercut, Ortiz walks through it, catches Mayweather with the left, starts throwing another flurry, Mayweathers laughing at him, Ortiz head butts him, 2 piece and a side of Nyquil, fight over.




    Honestly I dont see how people saw this round as being close. It reminded me alot of what Oscar and Hatton tried to do, but less effective, nor were they getting hit with as many flush punches. All I saw was Ortiz setting himself up for fatigue later on.


    But im interested in other peoples opinions, and especially more play by plays of the round from other peoples perspective.

    Look, it's ridiculous to say after four rounds, we know what the outcome of the fight would be. It was Mayweather's round, but the shots Ortiz did land were pretty decent and got Mayweather's attention.

    If Cotto/Margarito, or Rios Acosta, or Taylor Chavez were to have been stopped after the first four rounds, most people would say that Cotto, Acosta and Chavez were on their ways to victory. Hell, even in Jones/Tarver II, jones was clearly dominating the fight for the first round and a half. No one would have ever in a million years predicted Tarver KO-ing Roy.

    But the fact remains it's a 12-round fight for a reason, and those fights are exemplary examples of why.

    The combos in the beginning of the rd alone won him the rd.

    This is all true. However, Mayweather usually gets better as the fight goes on. He takes the first few rounds to gauge his opponent and then increasingly becomes more dominant. Ortiz, is just the opposite. He starts out really fast and then allows his opponent to work his way back into the fight. So considering Ortiz was already down 4-0, it probably would've only gotten worse for him. We don't know for sure, but I bet most people have no interest in finding out via a rematch.

    Only about 4 times. It was on HBO on Demand today, first time I've seen it from start to finish.

    Btw, 4-0 Mayweather. I don't even know how Lederman gave rd2 to Ortiz.

    I had 4-0 for Floyd. There were people telling me the fight was 2-2 before the headbutt.

    In the fight that I saw, Mayweather was beating Ortiz's ass. Ortiz was frustrated! There were times when Ortiz looked strong, but was of his were grazing. Mayweather was gonna stop him in the 8th.
