I dont understand why people think Haye is after another Payday?

Because Haye, plenty of times in the past, has said he’s always been more concerned with money than legacy. His fight with Audley Harrison kinda’ proved that.

If he had any dignity or pride he'd fight one of the brothers for **** all and actually turn up for a fight. I don't like hating on British fighters but he's made himself look a complete **** and a disgraceful mercenary.

If David Haye could make £5m fighting Alexander Dimitrenko or Ruslan Chagaev he would happily fight those guys.Thats why he fought the terrible Harrison.What did that do for his reputation?

 

Yes it is. And I wish he'd just **** off for good, now. I can't bear the thought of him talking **** in another Klitschko build up, only to jump on his bike again for 12 rounds. If he does get the opportunity to fight Vitali, I hope he's given peanuts for it. Because that's what he deserves. If he accepts it, then we'll know he's in it for his reputation and not the money.

 

Id like to see him earn a shot at one of the Klitschko's by taking on some top contender's first, Only then I will take him seriously, He has no divine right to automatically jump straight into a title shot

I don't think that Haye has ever given any indication that he cares about legacy at any point in his career, so why should he suddenly care now?

He never faced Cunningham for the IBF Cruiser belt. He wasn't going to face Maccarinelly for the WBO until Sky hyped it enormously and it became a money fight.

All his heavyweight fights have been about minimum risk for maximum cash - early on he took on opponents against whom he could sell the fight, would move him closer to title level, yet would not threaten him. At least at cruiser he took some tough fights. At heavyweight he has never looked good against a live opponent. His only tough fight at heavyweight, he lost badly. And as others have said, he took the Harrison fight, to widespread derision (even Haye and Booth said that Harrison was not worthy of a shot at the title) because Sky/Audley hyped the amateur rivalry so effectively.

Haye is a very talented sports businessman, but has never shown any care for legacy. He wanted the safest, most lucrative route to the heavyweight title. He achieved that, which shows talent, but not as a fighter.

So why would anyone suddenly think that he wants to bolster his reputation now? Sure, he would love to beat Vitali, but he would take the fight for money, not glory. He'll be happy enough losing with a few million earned. Which is why I am no longer a fan.

Wlad was a boring fight. Audley was a boring fight. Valuev was a boring fight. As soon as guys were interested in him after Bonin and Barrett he got worse and worse, probably as his pay went up and up.
