The Cage provides a much more fluent fight , there are no breaks / re sets , it also provides problems such as manoeverability from your back , or vulnerable positions in the clinch , if your up against it , therefore it suits wrestlers , aditionally the point scoring system is somewhat different in the cage / states as you know

The Pride ring and rules , allowed a different style and mindset , nobody in the Pride era went looking to strategically take down there opponent and take a decision , even Mark Coleman looked to try and finish fights from GnP , not just top controlling

Fedor's grappling ability is / was geared around Jui Jitsu and Sambo , not wrestling , Fedor 05 against Velasquez 11 , in a cage is a completley different tale , to seeing Fedor fight Nog , Cro Cop , Barnett , Arlovski in a ring , i think the differences in environment and rules would of presented Fedor with more problems than the ring Pride rules did .

I see your point, especially with the 10 minute round. I guess that's overlooked when talking about Fedor fighting bigger guys as he wasnt as prone to gassing as most without the break in the round. But the ring preserving him from a loss is a bit absurd to be honest

This is all moot anyway, we are talking about what he did achieve, whether he could beat Cain, Brock ect is interesting and worthy of note, but not the main point of the thread

Preserved him from a loss was probably the wrong choice of words , i never meant that literally , that was in responce to somebody claiming he was preserved by match making which simply isnt true

And the main point of the thread is what ever gets discussed in that thread , and what ever people's opinions are about the thread title

Fedor is still the GOAT. Anderson and GSP still have six more years to go if they want to surpass him. Fedor's mistake was having associated himself with the likes of M-1 and that Rasputin-like priest, they have been nothing but bad influences that have changed him for the worse.

Without a doubt the best HW in the world from 2003-2006 and an ATG on that basis alone. There's also a case for him as P4P fighter during much of that time, as well, and that's quite the impressive achievement for a HW. That being said, he was never the invincible god he was made out to be, he had technical shortcomings, and he squandered the last years of his prime by taking on freak fights and bums while under the thumb of a band of sheisty cocksucking leeches which negatively impacts his legacy for sure.

He routinely beat guys who were WAY bigger than him

Anderson routinely beats guys a lot smaller than he him

Lets see GSP and Anderson regulary wiping out guys with 50lbs on them

I got you fella, but I believe the match making was a reference to his psot PRIDE opposition

That was due to me throwing you a bone, why did you have a ''I support gay marriage'' av again?

Seems to be the general consensus so far

Surely the best poster on ESB can come up with something better than this generic, repetitive and dull post any fan can, and has, made in the past.

Which fighters were bigger than Fedor? What was their MMA pedigree

Bull****. He's not the GOAT, at all, and one look at his resume compared to the likes of Anderson, GSP, and hell, Hendo should tell you that. Let's compare wins of some of the ATGs and see who looks like they're headed for GOAT status, shall we?

Fedor (optimal fighting weight 230s)- Arona (BS decision over a 205er), Babalu (205er), Schilt (one-dimensional K-1 fighter), Herring, Nogueira (HW champion) 2x, Fujita, Goodridge, Coleman (former HW champ) 2x, Randleman (HW champ), CroCop, Hunt (one-dimensional K-1 fighter), Lindland (185er), Hong-Man Choi (freak), Sylvia (former HW champ), Arlovski(former HW champ), and Rogers.

Anderson (185er)- Mach (Shooto and P4P champ), Newton (former WW champ), Horn, Murray, Leben, Franklin (MW champ) 2x, Marquardt, Henderson (MW and former LHW champ), Irvin (205er), Cote, Leites, Griffin (former 205 champ), Maia, Sonnen, Belfort (former 205 champ), and Okami.

GSP (170er)- Menjivar (natural FW), Parisyan, Hieron, Mayhem, Trigg, Sherk (LW champ), Penn (LW and WW champ, perennial P4Per) 2x, Hughes (WW and P4P champ) 2x, Koscheck 2x, Serra (WW champ), Fitch, Alves, and Shields (SF 185 champ).

Henderson- Newton (WW champ), Yvel (HW), Nogueira (HW champ), Babalu 2x, Ninja, Bustamante (MW champ) 2x, Misaki (MW champ), Belfort (former LHW champ), W. Silva (LHW champ), Palhares, Franklin (former MW champ), Cavalcante (SF LHW champ), Emelianenko (former HW champ)

Shogun- Cyborg, Rampage (future LHW champ), Minotoro, Overeem (future HW champ) 2x, Arona, Randleman (former HW champ), Coleman (former HW champ), Liddell (former LHW champ, Machida (LHW champ, should be 2x), Griffin (former LHW champ)

Chuck Liddell- Pele, Monson, Randleman (former HW champ), Mezger, Bustamante (MW champ), Belfort (future LHW champ), Babalu 2x, Overeem (future HW champ), Ortiz 2x (former LHW champ), Couture 2x (LHW champ and former AND future HW champ), Horn (185er), W. Silva (former LHW champ)

Out of all of these fighters with star-studded resumes, how can you defend the guy with the most freaks, cans, and undersized opponents out of all of them along with the least relevant wins over P4P fighters?

Anderson was busy getting subbed in PRIDE when Fedor was ruling the world. Your time comes your time goes. At the highest level Fedor is still the GOAT.
