I want to show appreciation for a true Philadelphia warrior who was too tough for his own good. Very special fighter how was the first person to get the best of Julio Ceasar Chavez in a fight. Arguably and imo the fastest hands to ever come to boxing and the youngest boxer to ever win a gold medal in the Olympics This content is protected This content is protected He had the tools to be slick defensive boxer, but chose to become and high volume and exciting brawler. People say Khan and Gamboa are fast, but Meldrick was on another plane [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=porsK2f9emo[/ame]
Excellent 140 lb fighter, fast hands, amazing workrate, good infighting and bodypunching. He was always more likely to be a shooting star than a long time champ though, Chavez or not. Partially because he was too brawl happy for his own good. Would've loved to have seen him mix it up at 140 in the mid 00s against guys like Tszyu, Mayweather, Cotto, and Hatton.
finally someone other than me respecting taylor and his accomplishments what a great fighter i hope hes doing ok cant wait till they make a movie about 2 seconds to glory
I think Taylour would have beaten Great JCC but Lou Duva told him to go war against him even it was clear as day Meldrick would have won the fight had he just survived to the end... Great fight, Great Fight thou.
Exciting as hell to watch, loved the heart he fought with. Great speed (half the time he was so fast you didn't notice him abusing the beltline lol) and combination punching. His natural urge to trade meant he was never going to last as champ for 10 years, but I'm never bored watching a replay of him. If he'd just had some more pop in his punches, he could've been special. Still a fine career regardless.
Taylor/Chavez was my introduction to watching live boxing and I'll ALWAYS appreciate Meldrick for that. Damn shame that Duva told him to brawl that last round and that Steele ****ed him over at the bitter end because that fight ruined him and robbed him of the chance for true greatness.
Entertaining fighter and one of my personal faves.:good It's sad to see where he ended up as a fighter. Makes you wish that he fought a much smarter fight, though I guess it wouldn't make Meldrick Taylor the entertaining fighter that we all love.
:thumbsup also watch the video at 3:00 :scaredas: you can't see his hands travel in the air on some of those punches
Ridiculous speed. Meldrick Taylor was very toughly matched throughout his entire career. He was still a kid really when he was fighting tough, experienced veterans like Blake, Brazier and Davis Jr. Then racking up wins over the excellent Buddy Mcgirt, and quality contenders in Meekins and Hooper, all before the age of 23, is just amazing. His performances against Chavez and McGirt were terrific, nobody gave those fighters a fight like Meldrick did before, or after for a long time. His accomplishments at Welterweight, when past his prime, weren't half bad either.
