Maybe this belongs in off topic but..... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/15114640.stm How disturbing is it that a guy who won 45 of 47 contests contemplates suicide after a RD 2 KO Loss. As a long time Hatton fan I find this a little upsetting and i guess brings the idea of depression a little closer to my mindset. I also find it worrying to myself as a young man that alcohol formed such a part of his celebratory tradition after winning a fight, then as soon as the alcohol entered into his post fight loss to Manny, it pushed him towards the notion of ending his own life despite the fact that he had a young lad growing up too. Maybe it's that kind of important thing that depression blanks from ones mind. However, nonetheless as a long time Hatton fan this is a little upsetting. Thankfully though, Ricky has evolved from that state, and has evidently become a fantastic promoter (lets hope his stable is sustainable), and a father again. He has proved that depression can be beat. This mans career in the ring is there to be celebrated. And I think that it is the humanity, that the above article portrays, that will endear the boxing public to Ricky Hatton for as long as he remains in the sport. The above is what I put on another site and I stand by it and my beliefs on the matter.
Boxing is a stressful sport, many boxers get overwhelmed by the pressure. I think Hatton is being overly dramatic, but it is a very very mentally draining sport, more so than physically.
I'm no fan of Hatton his media image, think it stinks at times, but i'm far less of a fan of the clear jealous a@holes who run around in envy jumping on every little word the bloke ever says.
It must be bloody depresing having a fit bird a supportive family and all those millions in the bank. Poor Wicky. He likes a drink and a sniff...has done all his adult life. The rest is bollocks and excuses. Especially the suicide bit. Depression is a serious illness and i sympathise with anyone genuinly affected by it. But no way is Ricky Hatton genuinly depressed
His hero & role model Duran did'nt weep & whine when getting iced in 2 rounds by Hearns & crawl away sobbing & feeling sorry for himself. He just plowed onwards & then rose to even greater heights when he beat Iran Barkley & decking him into the bargain & Barkley had just obliterated Hearns. Duran was more of a party animal in his 30's & all the boozing & massive weight reductions caught up with him that night against Hearns. I recall Duran lecturing Hatton that if he wishes to succed then he must sacrifice EVERYTHING!!! boxing must become his life, his mother, his father, his girfriend, it must be everything. but as we all know hatton most deff ai'nt Duran especially in the mental strength department & especially when you take into account the self induced humiliation that Duran heaped on himself when he told Leonard to **** off & walked out of the ring in New Orleans most fighters would have disappeared up their own arseholes, but duran did'nt, he fought his way back & within 3 years he had won the 154 crown & then took on the might Hagler at 160 who was avoided like the plague by Leonard & Hearns. For me Hatton is & has been totally deluded with regard to his boxing ability & he crumbled when faced with true adversity & only has himself to blame for his arrogance. He's still a young man!!! But he's chosen the easy route & expects sympathy & understanding!!! **** off!!!
Are you going to slate Pac too for doing the same with the IBO?!? This content is protected No, of course you won't.
Yet when Ricky stuck up for Floyds "sucker" punch against floyd he got **** on... If someone headbutted Duran do you think Duran would have touched gloves with him?
Oscar seems more serious about rehabilitation. He admitted his issues without some expose which was the case with Hatton and further to this he admitted his weird tranny thing, which he didnt really have to.
