Merchant shitting on Barker

I liked Stewards analogy. He was fighting a good fight, but he just needed to punch more. Basically, I think Steward wanted to say, Barker when he punches and sets Sergio up, he does it quite well. But he didn't do it often enough.

If that makes sense.

 

And that were he to let his hands go more, he'd stand a good chance of getting knocked out bad. He was essentially saying that Barker was doing everything right except throwing punches, but that if he did throw punches he'd be ****ed.

It's just hard for Larry to follow that kind of thinking seeing how he's really old and drunk.

 

Merchant is such a dick. Barker is not in the same class or at the elite level, he did the best he could and merchant wont even admit that barker surprised him and did way better than merchant himself or anyone else expected.

Trying to say oh maybe martinez fights down to the level of opposition. Hey merchant did it occur to you that Barker had a way different style and tried to actually use defense compared to the previous opponents of martinez. He came in with a gameplan and strategy and it was a smart strategy and it worked its just that martinez is a much better fighter and over came it but it gave him some problems. Golden Gloves champ and hall of fame trainer steward was trying to tell your dumb ass that but you are too senile to pick up on it.

It wasn't just Merchant sh*tting on Barker - the whole HBO crew was. Right down to Letterman.

You can see how HBO is desperately trying to build Martinez up to more than he is - P4P #3 my ass...

Stewart was at times forgetting this and finding some praise, only to quickly realize that this wasn't part of the script.

Rounds 3-4 definitely belonged to Barker, I gave him Round 2 also. I think up until the 6th, he was giving Martinez a lot of problems with his own counterpunching. But nobody at HBO called it. Lampley was commenting on every single clean punch Martinez landed but only 1 in 10 of Barker.

Compubox again proved to be either a random number generator or a bunch of monkeys pressing buttons for bananas.

I was really frustrated with HBO last night.

Fact is, I just think everyone expected more from Barker. Even though he was not boasting, he did talk as if he was going to try to knock Sergio out, but did not fight like it.

Looked like he was hoping some of the few punches he was throwing would do the job. When that did not work, he could not "up his game".

I was disappointed too. He did not belong in the ring in this fight. He was physically and mentally weak.

 

Merchant takes too long to get hes point across... i mean he takes too long not getting hes point across.
