Tbf any fighter should be desperate to get with Matchroom asap. They have a fantastic relationship with Sky who will trust them with anything and their other business means that the bottom line isn't everything to them. With Eddie Hearn being a massive fan too you gotta think he would be a dream to be promoted by.
Well done hearn and barker you did us proud last night. I was amazed how marked up barker was even though he did a brilliant job of taking everything on the gloves, I got the feeling barker and his team were very warey of Martinez left hand and that was holding barker back from letting his hands go? The sky team were spot on about the speed of Martinez. Barker vs dzinziurik would be interesting.
Eddie Hearn is the only promoter in this country who doesn't come across in a smarmy greedy outlook. He seems to be generally a big fight fan.
No fault Darren, you were always going to be more competitive than you were being given credit for. Big step, hard loss but you can come again. You have the right attitude and a decent manner, it shows and it will stand to you.
Barker did fantastically, and Hearn did too even getting Barker the opportunity. I think Barker must have feared ending up like Paul Williams, but really did well, and left more that a few question marks hanging over Sergio. Barker v Sturm if he wins his next fight, or v Macklin, or even a name like Pavlik.
Its funny how everyone is saying he did really well but he was still knocked out. Martinez is getting slated when he still won inside the distance with a clean KO!
I don't really get it either. Basically, because Barker did better than expected, he's now proven he's world class despite getting smashed and barely winning a round. It was a good performance in some respects, but I hardly see how getting smashed inside the distance is doing brilliantly.
I had Barker winning 4 rounds out of 10. that's not hardly any rounds is it? Fact is many people thought Barker would get blown out early, but in fact Barker went to round 11 winning some rounds in the process and making the champ look a bit ordinary at times.
You could tell in the post fight interview, that Eddie was really gutted for Darren, He seems to get along well with all of his fighter's which is nice to see.
