Interestingly Rafa Marquez questions the outcome of Saturday's big SBW showdown, even though the though of anyone scoring it for him is shocking after 12 rounds in which Nishioka always appeared to land the cleaner, more effective blows.

I had Speed King winning by 117-111, some close early round, but then a strong finish, I found 9 rounds in which he was better than Rafa. 10th could've been a 10-8.

I had the fight a draw going into the 7th but stopped scoring cause I got so much into the action. With that being said, I might have given Marquez 1 round in the second half.

Round 1

Marquez comes out and jabs hard at the body. Nishioka stays in front of Marquez, waiting for him and then darting back out of the way of the right hand when Marquez sends it flying past the jab. Nishioka blocks some jabs by pushing out his right in an explorative manner, and lets Marquez lead with left jabs to the body. Nishioka starts to open up with some right jabs as Marquez becomes less active. Nishioka lands a glancing jab to the ear as Marquez lands one to the body. They come together and clap their gloves against each other's shoulders before pushing apart. Jab to the face by Marquez. Long jabs by Marquez, reaching high and long. Right hand by Marquez, and Nishioka rolls back with it. Wide circling by Nishioka. Marquez hops back and to his left as Nishioka throws a lead left hand. Marquez jabs and backs up as Nishioka loads up another, and lands it hard on the chin of Marquez to send him back an extra step or two.

Round 2

Nishioka circles to his left and throws the right jab, letting Marquez come to him and keeping the left hand cocked high at his side to throw in counter. Marquez is backing him up with left jabs but falling short with his right cross. Nishioka changes directions, circling on the outsie and lands a 1-2. Marquez tries to catch Nishioka circling with a jab. Right hand by Marquez. Left hook by Marquez.

Marquez stabs forward with his strong left jab, backing Nishioka up. Marquez lands a double jab to the armpit, past Nishioka's outheld right arm and then lands a cross to the chin as Nishioka pulls back. Marquez takes a left to the body as Nishioka circles left on the outside. Right jabs zip out from Nishioka as he glides all around Marquez. Stiff jab by Marquez. Nishioka ducks and lands a left to the body. Marquez keeps coming forward and jabbing Nishioka in the armpit as Nishioka waves his right arm around, feinting his own jab to keep Marquez honest.

Marquez comes forward and lunges with his left jab, missing. Nishioka is circling right and landing the 1-2 a bit, but just grazing Marquez with it as the two boxers are positioned very far apart by mutual design. Marquez throws a long jab, not quite reaching. Stiff right jabs to the face by Nishioka. Marquez down on his butt! Slip, says Bayless! (good call) Left hand by Nishioka. Marquez throws a long right to the body. Marquez lands a good right hand to the chin now, exploding up out of a crouch from the outside. Nishioka lands a good left uppercut, halting Marquez's progress. Good blocking by Nishioka with his right forearm, stemming off Marquez's jabbing attack. Marquez misses some wild rights as Nishioka brushes him with right jabs from outside.

Nishioka throws the right jab and left hand to the body. Marquez is lunging with his right hand and just pushing it across Nishioka's back as the champion ducks forward. Right hook by Nishioka as he turns Marquez. Double jab, and a straight left by Nishioka. Glancing right by Marquez. Nishioka starts to whip around up top with left hands to keep Marquez at bay. Nishioka dances outside and has free range moving unmolested in either direction to size Marquez up. Marquez just stands still - and takes a BIG left hand. Long right hands by Marquez, accurate not quite traveling the distance and making flush contact with Nishioka.

Nishioka is drawing Marquez along, slipping his jabs and lining him up for the BIG left hand. Marquez is getting stung, and is unable to get inside and score on Nishioka with his jab...but keeps trying. Nishioka is employing much better foot work than Marquez, dancing around him with ease and sizing him up for one hard straight left after another while constantly on the move, pushing off his back heel for emphasis. Marquez eats ANOTHER flush left. Marquez hops in place and sets back to task, intent on walking through fire and getting his jab off. Marquez jabs high and wide, and Nishioka slips with a sidestep to land ANOTHER left hand.

Marquez jabs out, straight and high but not able to close the distance. His feet seem stuck in quicksand, and he can't keep up with the legs of the more sprightly Nishioka. Nishioka is landing lefts while circling, and Marquez gets in close to grab but eats a pair of left uppercuts. Nishioka is circling faster now, and throwing his punches closer together. Marquez hops up and down, and pumps himself up to throw some more jabs and right hands falling short. Nishioka loads up a big left hand at an incline, but Marquez ducks forward past it. Marquez is desperately seeking out Nishioka's face with his jab, but Nishioka's feet are carrying him well off the firing line. Left hand by Nishioka. The right jab is floated out by Nishioka just as a parrying tool to swat Marquez's jab away before setting up more left hand leads.

Marquez throws a jab and a right as Nishoika is ducking in past him but doesn't land clean. Marquez loops his left arm around Nishioka's neck as the champ keeps darting in low and oddly trying to grab Marquez. It's unclear why Nishioka is drawn in to Marquez like a moth to flame now, instead of boxing outside as he'd been doing nicely for the past few rounds. :huh Nishioka is getting horny for the KO, perhaps? Yeah, he's picking up the aggression and it's a bit of an awkward fit on him (as more of a counter puncher). BOOM! Head clash. Nishioka's fault, but it hurt him a lot more. He is cut. Time in. Nishioka is blinking through the pain. Marquez comes on strong! Right hands! Nishioka is able to gather himself, and backs off into circling range after taking minimal damage. Marquez chases and lands a jab. BIG straight left to the gut by Nishioka!! That would have knocked the wind out of lesser men. Marquez keeps pressing forward. Lunging right hand to the body by Marquez. Another lunging right, grazing the chin of Nishioka. Marquez is a right hand machine.

Nishioka is caught with a left hook while moving to the ropes. Marquez is winging out hard shots while rapidly giving chase, emboldened by the cut and his success late in the 8th. Left hand lead lands for Nishioka. Marquez lands a 1-2. Nishioka left hand! Marquez right hand, left hook!! A fight is breaking out!! They circle each other a bit closer than before. Nishioka waves his right glove around, faking Marquez out before throwing a left hand lead and then a short combo behind it. Marquez looks to blast him with a right hand, but is held off by the Nishioka jab. Nishioka feints a hook to the body but pulls back. Marquez goes for his own double left hook to the body and holds NOTHING back, landing with a hard thud-thud. Nishioka stays in close for the most part but is darting back whenever Marquez starts to move his hands. Good rights landing for Marquez, and good lefts for Nishioka. Good technical fighting at mid-range by both.

Big lefts by Nishioka, landing very solidly on the face of Marquez. VERY straight and powerful lefts by Nishioka!! Marquez is in trouble! Nishioka is really bringing the hammer down with that left! Marquez skirts to the ropes, and just gets slammed with left crosses behind the bracing right jab! Overhand left by Nishioka, pivoting into it. Left uppercut by Nishioka as Marquez was ducked low for a second, just glancing as Marquez snaps up straight. Right jab by Nishioka. Right hand to the body falls short for Marquez. Nishioka is bossing Marquez, landing a left uppercut to the sternum and a right hook up top. BIG LEFT HAND! ANOTHER BIG LEFT HAND!! Marquez is on jelly legs, but bravely hanging in there! Powerful laser lefts from Nishioka! WHIPPING left hand across the face by Nishioka! Marquez throws a lead right coming forward, and Nishioka slips it while stepping around Marquez.

Nishioka circles out to his left, and waves his hands around to intercept the errant right hands of Marquez. Right hook upstairs by Nishioka, and he leaves the glove resting on Marquez's shoulder before nailing him with a left hand. Several lefts by Nishioka! Combos! Marquez is getting banged up! Nishioka is patient and collected, not wasting energy. Nishioka ducks in front of Marquez, and then pushes up with a left hand landing flush against Marquez's face. Nishioka works his way in, slowly - and then takes a quick pair of steps to throw an accurate combo before moving back outside. Marquez is backed up by powerful lefts, and ducks while shrinking back and blocking. Right jab, left hand by Nishioka on the front foot. Left uppercut by Nishioka. Right hook up top. BIG left hand lead to the jaw by Nishioka. Marquez lands a right hand but only partly as Nishioka rolls back with it.

Nishioka takes a right to the body while strafing around Marquez. Nishioka is right in front of Marquez, ducking and circling tight. Marquez throws a good right uppercut, but takes a right hook! Fast pace! Marquez works at the body, but Nishioka is too quick on his feet, buzzing around him and jabbing him in the head. Jab and a left cross from Nishioka. Marquez gets doubled over by a left to the body. Nishioka keeps pressing in close. Right hook by Nishioka just misses. Marquez throws a 1-2 but it is very fat and limp, going over Nishioka's shoulders. Nishioka ducks very low in front of Marquez, then straightens up and lands a combo. Marquez is fishing for him but can't find Nishioka's head cleanly. BIG right hand lands for Marquez!! Nishioka ducks inside and then pops up flurrying! Both let their hands go! Left hook Marquez, right hook Nishioka! Marquez's glove touches the canvas - slip! Big left hand to the body by Nishioka! 1-2 by Marquez!

Only close in terms of rounds on the 10-point must.

Nishioka won his rounds BIG (where Marquez's were close, especially the later ones in the 8th and 9th).

In the last three frames, I really couldn't comprehend how Marquez wasn't getting KTFO (even though I watched it on delay with foreknowledge of the result).

Especially as Nishioka carries his power late. Marquez does have a solid chin though, took most of JuanMa's and Izzy's punches well... what a warrior, but time to retire champ!

I didnt score it as such but had Bish winning by a couple of rounds. Marquez likes to complain after every loss though so its just the norm for him

I have'nt seen the fight, but from what I've read in this forum, it looks like Rafael typically lost steam down the stretch of the fight.

Even in his heyday RF always seem to start well but cant carry the energy for the full fight.
