On PTI they said ODLH vs PBF was almost done for Sept and that idiot Kornheiser said "Oh who cares Boxing is dead" . I wanted to reach across the screen and punch that ***. :bbb Maybe someone should email him the 4.8 Million PPV's buys HBO did and the 255 Million at the gate which clearly beat the garbage UFC.:deal Tony Kornheiser ur an ASS
I think they meant in comparison to other major US sports. Even with the PPV buys, it gets half the coverage it used to. And remember, ESPN is trying to promote boxing more than it used to.
NA ,not to other sports he just simply said its dead and move on to the next subject. I hate Kornheiser he's horrible on MNF too
I didn't take it that way. I think they always mean in comparison to other sports. Just my opinion. But I think that is the context.
Boxing is dead to them cause he is trying to get a position when UFC goes to espn as one of the color commentators.
Plus, in reality, Kornheiser and Wilbon are HUUUUGE boxing fans. There is more coverage on a regular basis than almost every other program on ESPN. Im sure he meant it more tongue in cheek...because if you watch the show alot, youd know they both LOVE boxing.
What a dumbfu*k!!! I cant believe he said that. I used to like that guy, after a stupid and bold comment like that, how can you give credit to anything that comes out his mouth. What a stupid ass!!!
It seems as if the mainstream sports media are trained to say "boxing is dead." In reality, it's as live as it has been in a long while and there are great fights on the horizon. I don't put any stock into what ESPN has to say about boxing, although I watch ESPN daily for other coverage and opinions regarding the NBA, NFL, MLB, and college sports. The absolute worst comment I have heard on ESPN is when Skip Bayless said Muhammad Ali lost to Leon Spinks and Ken Norton in his prime.
Ummm, they are boxing fans guys...if he said it it was either sarcastic or in terms of media coverage. I watch the show religiously (TIVO...tho havent watched todays yet)and I guarentee no malice intended.
"yeah, but boxing is dead." translation.... "yeah, i don't know shyt about the sport and it's much easier for me if i just say it's dead." or..... "yeah....boxing doesn't have any bret favre or tom brady's that i can relate to or worship so i don't watch it." or.... "yeah...that's too scientific for my blood...i'd much rather watch two 'roided up buff guys dry hump each other into submission."
ESPN is trying and thank God. All Boxing gotta do is make the competitive Championship fights. KG... It damn sure ain run like other sports either:-( I pray for things to change and improve.
