If the fight had gone to round 7 Lewis would of blinded Vitali, or KO'd him, the guy was out on his feet.

 

LL win over Vitali is underrated.
Vitali would give any ATG-HW from any era massive problems, Lewis managed to stop him in 6. Great win.

Edit:
Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but on german tv VK said that immediately after the fight, LL granted him a rematch, but VK insisted on LL "telling it to the camera", which LL wouldn't do. Thats why Vitali punched him on the shoulder and yelled at him.

Lennox was able to do what nobody else has, catch Vitali going straight back. Lennox had the ring experience to see what Vitali does and stepped with him with a big right hand and caught him going straight back early in 3. That opened that bad gash. The cut under the eye looked like a re-open of a recent cut, if you look there is a scar there on Vitali before the fight and I'm not sure when it opened. Lewis caught Vitali with a mauling uppercut late to rip his mouth up, not many men alive could have stood up to that punch. Neither guy was fighting a really smart fight and I'm not sure either guy was going to be standing by round 12 had it made it that far, they were both gassed. All that said, it was a great HW fight, best in the last 10 years likely and that's why its still being talked about. Bottom line like it or not. Lewis tko 6.......Vitali=Event

 

Vitalis salute to the crowd post fight was based on, wait for it, the Nazi salute.
The artist who designed Mike Tysons facial tattoo had a premonition of Lewis-Klitschko in January that year and based the tribal markings on Vitalis face.
Post fight Manny Steward was supposed to have been heard saying to Lewis "I seen you beat that man like I ain't never seen no man get beat before and the man kept coming after you!!! We don't need a man like that in our lives." Soon after Lewis retired.
At the end of round 3 Vitalis corner where heard asking if hollywood make up artist Rick Baker was in the crowd, unfortunatley, he was not.
When Lewis hit Vitali with the uppercut in round 6 he inadvertently straightened a spinal problem Vitali had suffered from his kick boxing days, Vitali has never said thank you.
It's rumoured Kirk Johnson lay rocking on the ground sucking his thumb for 4 days after the fight, he is now a born again Christian.
Vitali returned to Germany a hero. They appreciate people who try to rule the world yet ultimately fail.
