Is Jhonny Gonzalez the most underrated fighter on the planet?

    - former terrifying BW ruler, known for a fragile body, remembered for getting KO'd by Toshiaki Nishioka at SBW - but did you know he's a FW titleholder and knocked out elite fighter Hozumi Hasegawa?

    - known for destructive punching power - but did you know he's an excellent boxer-puncher, training under Nacho "His ****ing Shoulder Is Like This" Beristain?

    - it's like he's been around forever (57 fights, turned pro 12yrs ago) - but did you know he just recently turned 30?

    While there are several hard punchers who are getting mad love in boxing, Jhonny might very well be the biggest knockout artist of them all, and is ready to prove it vs. any featherweight out there - just not many are willing to take that risk.

    Only watched a few clips of him here and there.

    Would like to see him try his luck against the obvious three - Donaire, Gamboa and Lopez.

    I thought he was weight drained at BW and it effected his punch resistance. Still i think Gamboa destroys him. Against Juan

    Ma, who lands the first BOMB wins.Gonzales destroys the rest. Mikey might break him down and stop him.De leon can beat

    Gonzales IMO.

    Most definitely. He carried some amount of power. His fight with Hasegawa was really interesting while it lasted. He has a chance against anyone with the power he carried.

    He deserves a shot against Gamboa or Lopez.

    Not the most underrated, he has a strong cult following. His TV appeal is quite underrated, though, every one of his fights should be on a premium channel. In fact I propose a new unit of measure of boxing excitement, call it Jhonny Walker in honor of him and Travis Walker, two warriors that always fight as if their chins were made of steel.

    I love Johnny Gonzalez. Good all round fighter with very good power and a tonne of heart.

    Win or lose he is nearly always in exciting fights. His fight against Israel vazquez was a thriller.

    I agree, He is a hell of a fighter, I have been following him for a couple years. His win over Matagwa impressed me because Mtagwa is a tough guy and even if he is a journeyman I credit Gonzalez for KOing him. Very impressed so far, I believe his division has Gamboa, Juanma, Salido, Mikey Garcia ect. so just like i say with guys like Edwin Rodriguez in the SMW division, I think Gonzalez is unnoticed often.

    Quite the opposite in fact. He gets called underrated/underappreciated by the masses, when there's quite a few more worthy of the moniker.

    Also, Gamboa for one was ready to ''take the risk'', but Jhonny turned it down, and that's why the Ponce fight happened.

    And Hasegawa is far from ''elite'' and always has been.

    Not the most underrated, but definitely one of the least known better fighters that is from Mexico's long line of excellent fighters.

    World class power - Check
    World class skills - Check
    World class heart - Check
    World class chin - Sadly, this is his biggest weakness and has contributed to all of his losses.

    He was completely outclassing Penalosa before the knockout. Hardly an embarrassing showing, if anything Gerry got lucky with that shot.
