I am a fan of Cotto, but he needs to man up and fight Mayweather. His legassy would be so much better (though I think he'd lose).

    His last fights:

    -Quintana (prospect, not so good)
    -Urkal (37)
    -Judah (one year of inactiveness)
-Mosley (he was 36, many say Shane won the fight and it was a robbery).

Cotto needs that fight. He also needs to win a Lineal Title and beat someone like Mayweather, Williams, Spinks, etc...not Alfonzo Gomez.

Is he really fighting Gomez or is that just speculation? I can't beleive Cotto and his camp would think this is a good fight for him. I mean he easily beats Gomez but what does that do for his name? Nothing!

Cotto is the one that doesn't want to fight him now, that's why he preferred to fight Oscar and now is apparently fighting Alfonzo Gomez.

    And he should rematch Shane.

i dont see Cotto taking a rematch with Shane. The first was close and Shane could easily take the rematch

rematching shane gets him nowhere. real fight fans already know the deal with cotto and love him...its the casual fans who need to see what a beast this kid is and push for fights with him and mayweather and stop paying for DLH fights. so put him in with Gomez and let everyone see him kick some ass

If Cotto and his people wanted a fight with Mayweather then why did they said this:

"WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto doesn't call out
other fighters and steadfastly maintains that he doesn't
choose his opponents and he'll fight whomever Top Rank puts
him in with. However, his uncle/manager/trainer Evangelista
Cotto told El Nuevo Dia that a May 3 superfight with Oscar
De La Hoya is clearly the preferred alternative for the unbeaten
champion from Cauguas, Puerto Rico. "Right now a fight with De la
Hoya is more marketable than one with Mayweather," said Evangelista,
"even though De la Hoya lost to Mayweather in his last fight and
Mayweather won last night against Hatton, De La Hoya remains the
most marketable....the other names that have been mentioned to
fight with Miguel do not compare economically with a fight with De la Hoya."

And why was Arum already making plans for Cotto BEFORE the Mayweather-Hatton fight? He was talking about an April or May fight (that was going to be against Clottey or Oscar, now it's apparently gonna be against Gomez) and then a fight against Margarito.

Right now, I don't think you can solely put the blame on Cotto, or Mayweather for that matter.

Cotto, or his team, wanted De La Hoya. Mayweather wanted a De La Hoya rematch. Mayweather apparently got the fight with De La Hoya instead of Cotto. Either way, it wasn't gonna happen soon with De La Hoya in the picture.

I'm bothered by the fact that this unnecessary rematch is taking place in September. Get it out of the way, make it May 3rd, and the winner faces Cotto.

Mayweather is chasing the Money right now. Cotto will be around for the next couple of years - while Oscar has a year or two left in him. Why not cash in now and still beat the **** out of Cotto later.

As long as Cotto keeps winning - the fight will happen.

If you had the choice of fighting one or the other - you would go where the most money was too. So - if you understand the Business side of the sport or just complaining cause it's the fight you want to see - PLEASE SHUT THE **** UP!

You guys aren't the only ones that want to see Mayweather/Cotto - about 80% or more of the people here would rather see that fight - but it's not going to happen this year. Nor will our complaining change that.

This is the objective account of what is going on here. Not cotto is dodging PBF. As a matter or fact that is a proposterous notion.
