I have never supported the Klitschkos. But Wlad's isn't doing anything wrong here...

Wlad's in the business of making cash. If he can make an easy $5 million by fighting a French midget and idiotic Germans tune in by the millions to watch then more power to him.

Having said that... I'm not excited about the fight at all. The matchup is simply idiotic, worst mismatch I can recall.

 

Well, sadly, Wlad's likely to fight Chambers again, as he's going into an eliminator for the IBF title with Thompson and I think he's rightfully favored. I don't care that he fights Mormeck, or think it needs excused, either. I just think it's a waste of everyone's time but Mormeck's, as he will probably get a good final payday, I assume. I hope he gets a good final payday, that at least this would come out of it. He's been a very good fighter, and put on some great shows. Mormeck has, albeit in less crushing outcomes, done nothing less significant at heavyweight, in terms of victories, than Solis and Arreola did before their shots at Vitali's title, for instance (because the sanctioning bodies aren't forcing them to). He's probably, rightfully a top 20 heavyweight, considering the era.

Why you can't pick a top twenty guy when the top ten have either faced you, are busy, or don't want to face you, to keep busy, I would have no idea. I won't pick on it, no matter how little interest I have in seeing Wlad face a 39-year-old fringe contender who will have about a seven-inch height disadvantage. But, I've been around too long to have it raise either eyebrow. When champions dominate for a while, they end up scraping the bottoms of barrels. :conf

The blame goes on guys like Povetkin, Atlas and those running the WBA. The best non-related challenger left for Wladimir gets to defend a version OF WLADIMIR'S TITLE against a 49-year-old man who did nothing to deserve a shot at the title since a poor showing where he should've won against their champ three ****ing years ago. Povetkin/Chagaev would've been a perfectly respectable eliminator bout. Instead it's...c

Some of the dickheads on here need to grasp that a criticism of this era is not necessarily a criticism of the Klitschko brothers. We're not knocking this era just to have a go at the brothers, this era of Heavyweight boxing is being considered amongst the worst in history, because that is exactly what it is. It's not the Klitshcko's fault (a lot of nuthuggers seem to think anyone criticising this era is simply attacking the brothers), and it's not really anyone elses fault. It's just an atrocious spell for teh weight division.

No, brother, IT IS. I think there's good talent around, but if these ****ers running the sanctioning bodies don't force the fighters to earn their shots against other top guys...we get this. Guys that get lazy and fat, look for their one big payday, don't stay in shape, don't fulfill their potential, because they don't build up experience appropriately and we don't get competitive fights because the top guys don't have to face each other for a title shot and they're largely completely unprepared for the title shots they do get.

Arreola, for instance, would never be a great fighter, I don't think, but come on. Look what he had before fighting Vitali. Bringing McCline out of retirement? For ****'s sake! atsch If he had been forced into fights with legitimate top ten guys, he may have actually given a great, competitive match that people would talk about. He may have stayed in shape and have honed his craft enough to have some savvy in there. This era would be looked upon so much better, with the exact same guys, if we just had good competitive matches between them to talk about, that they were forced to get into to earn big bucks and title shots. They'd be motivated to stay in better shape and learn how to adjust, forced to polish their skills with experience.

If you let a bunch of fatasses beat on no-hopers to get a title shot, this is what you get. I think you can place the blame right on the heads of those in charge of the titles and rankings. They sanctioned Briggs/Klitschko, because a voluntary is just gimme money, for instance, and now Stiverne gets toyed with for most of the fight with Ray Austin's corpse before "earning" a title shot with a knockout when he should be earning it against top ten men and blablablarantrantcurse****shitbastardsblah! :twisted:

You're right. Even if the top contenders around are fairly crap, at least if they faced each other from time to time, as a process of actually determining who is the best contender out there, some legitimacy would be added to current title challenges. It's a shame that we rarely see top Heavyweight contenders going against each others, it's a rarity nowadays to be honest. The incentive seems to be 'get yourself into the top 10/15, and then challenge a Klitschko'. And you're right, it's down to the sanctioning bodies. But as they seem to be run by a bunch of ******ed Gorrilas, it's an issue that realistically isn't going to be ironed out in the near future.

A damn shame.
