what does it mean though in the real world??--many boxers retire and then come back too many times to mention....no that he should until the klitschko's retire, he may make a couple of competitive fights then. clever bloke though ,regardless of how much he's disliked.....
Actually hoped he would see give it one last crack by facing a couple of fringe fighters like adamek/arreola then build up for one last klitschko fight. Heart obviously wasnt in it and all his talk about creating a legacy was just that, talk.
Cant belive the jealously of some people. Haye was phenominal at cruiser, and was mainly in great fights. He then wins a world title at heavy, and successfully defends it twice before losing to a top 30 atg. He then opts to retire with good health (albeit a poorly big toe) and money in the bank to spunk on strippers. IMO he deserves props. Clearly he has always looked after number 1 and certainly his stint at heavy was all about making money. His mouth despite pissing a lot of people off, has made him a mint, and if i was in his shoes then I would do the same. Retire early and enjoy my money with my health in tact.
wouldnt say wasted talent. Its not as though he was a star in the making. Probably be remembered as a former world champion in 2 weight divisions. All credit, even if his antics did annoy me at times.
If it turns out to be true and he doesn't fight again it's a pity. I'd have loved to see him fight Vitali, or anyone to be honest. For me his stock rose in the Wlad fight. He showed great reflexes, a solid chin and good handspeed in that fight. He just didn't have the footwork, balance, punch output and most importantly experience to come away with the win. Also Wlad is an ATG deal:deal Anyway, I'll be disappointed if he doesn't fight again I agree. I think he put on a good performance against Wlad, but Wlad made no mistakes and that was that
It says a lot about our beloved sport when a potential world champion decides to retire in there prime a loser.
whats all this big toe stuff wasnt it his little one he sounded well up for vitali before the adamek fight, something must have changed his mind  i think hes just realised he doesnt want to fight the klitschkos again and theres nothing else out there for him moneywise wouldnt surprise me in the slightest if he makes a coemback if wlad/vitali start looking **** or he can set up a big money fight with fury or somebody
Haye is a smart man, he made his money probly doesn't wanna get hit in the head anymore he still has his health and will make a great pundit, not supposing really.
Delighted Haye has retired and hope he sticks to it. First thing he has said that I have agreed with in ages!
Honestly don't care. He only helped the division in that he finally lost and Klit took another belt. He lied to everyone. He is a con job. His fight against Wlad was AWFUL, his fight against Harrison was AWFUL, his fight against Valuev was AWFUL! He made millions on promises. Cruiserweight Haye was a far cry from Heavyweight Haye. What a change!
I'd say Haye should be remembered as a British great. He won world titles in 2 weight divisions and has an unbelievable ko ratio. Ok the toe excuse was a poor way to finish but other than that I don't think he did much wrong. The Audley fight was rubbish but hardly his fault that he was offered a huge amount of money to fight someone he could've beaten with his eyes closed. More fool anyone who fell for the hype. He was arrogant but he backed it up in the ring and was exciting to watch in 95% of his fights. I reckon he did pretty well all things considered. In terms of recent British heavyweights only Lennox has done better. it will be a while before we get another British heavyweight world champion.
ESB, HOW WILL YOU REMEMBER DAVID HAYE Ok, so i'm preparing another article on David Haye, just wanted to get a few quotes from you lot again, the best ones will be included. How will you remember him? Does his poor HW record overcloud his achievements at CW? Is he right to retire?
Oh please FFS. Be real. Ok Haye lost, but he was not pummelled into retirement. The only thing that let Haye down, was the fact his body couldn't cash the cheques his mouth was writing. But at no stage at no stage, did Wlad batter Haye for 12 rounds or even look like he was going to have him out of there. Indeed, if anything Haye still on his feet albeit with a bruised little toe shows how rubbish the heavyweight division is. If anything, Haye is a very very smart businessman. He has made his millions, won titles at two weights and left the sport in his prime with his health intact, but for a broken little toe.
Hope this thread doesn't turn into another one of these, Haye is one of those fighters where the two camps, pro and con, are very polarized and so it would be rare for either side to say something that would persuade the other side, so little point to it, imho! I would never say that Haye is a British great: he never had a great fight at heavyweight, he plotted a very careful, low-risk route to where he got. At cruiserweight, he took a couple more risks, but caught key opponents/titles at key times so again plotted very carefully. Mormeck in Paris was a good win, but Mormeck was about 110 at the time and planning to move up in weight. So his cruiser run was better than that at heavy, but still too careful to be great, imho. Haye was an ATG businessman, an average fighter (great at a couple of things but poor at a couple of others), but a keen eye for an opportunity and timing gave him a record that, on paper, will read much better than that of many more talented fighters. I don't like him - I did in the early days, very much so, I supported him versus Valuev but that was the last time - but I give him credit for one of the cleverest assaults on world boxing ever. Unfortunately he turned off most of the mainstream fans he attracted so whether, overall, he was good for boxing I am very much not sure. Some of you will agree with me, some will passionately disagree, so not sure whether I will add much more to this thread if it endures - can't see any of us changing our opinions at this point!!
