When Danny beat Mike Tyson in 2004 it rocketed him into the world title picture. While he was coming of defeats agaisnt lower level heavyweights they were almost forgotten when Danny stopped the fading legend.

Instead of building towards a title fight, Danny cashed in straight away by taking on the toughest possible challenge in Vitali Klitscko.

Could Danny have gone for one of the weaker champions, could ****** have tempted one of them to London.

at that time the other champions were

    Lamont Brewster (WBO)
    Chris Byrd (IBF)
    John Ruiz (WBA)

Would Danny of had a better chance against any of these 3 with his confidence at a high and fighting in his hometown?

Id have fancied him to give Ruiz a good fight, especially infront of a noisy home crowd.

I would of still thrown him in with Vitaili Kiltschko.

What a effort and show of courage Danny Williams shown in that fight, people need to understand that he had a injured shoulder coming into that fight aswell.

Danny would've beaten Ruiz, possibly Brewster but not byrd, I always wanted to see him in with sinan Samuel sam, I reckon Sam in his prime beats chagaev, peter, ibraghimov.

    Good thread.

Thing is, he'd be an outside chance against any of those guys as well. As always with Danny, he did the bravest thing possible.

Okay, didn't really give him any kind of chance at winning a strap, but with little chance at the top he went for the best guy at the time.

Byrd was no hitter but far too skilled an operator.

I'd have put him in with Ruiz. Hrs basic, he'd have a scrap and isn't much of a puncher. Brewster was no great shakes but hit hard enough to get Danny out of there at some point.

Wasn't a dad decision he got a decent payday didn't he and can say he fought the best around.

  10. I'd have put him in with Klitschko.

With Williams you never knew whether he'd look like a world beater or a six round level journeyman.

He'd got the huge win over an admittedly shot Tyson, it was time to cash in on it I feel.

I think Ruiz would have mauled him to a decision, Brewster probably stops him and Byrd stands him on his head. Of four pretty much nailed on losses you might as well take the one that pays the best.

I would have put him in with Klit because he prob offered most money and Williams could not have trusted to win against someone to cash in on his Tyson victory before a title fight

Did he lose to Sam before or after the Tyson fight? IIRC it was after the Vitali fight, either way I remember being really disappointed at the time.

With Danny you had to take the money especially the shedload he got for the Vitali fight as he could lose to anyone if his head wasn't on the job which was at least a 50% chance.
