As for Jamie Moore, **** knows why you keep bringing his name up or what he's done to offend you, but I've seen most posters say something to the degree of 'never got past Euro level but a good action fighter.'

You are trying to make out like being a solid Cruiserweight is massive achievement. As I'm saying, to me, Cruiserweight means naff all.

But enjoy your appreciation thread, you've always been a big Haye fan, so no worries. I was just trying to add some balance

It's been clear for a long time that Haye has little regard for legacy. He may have done earlier in his career but now it's just about money so I don't see much point in arguing about his place in boxing history. If he doesn't care then why should we?

 

beating Fragotelli, Mormeck and Macaronelli cant really be stated as great. It shows how poor the Cruiserweight division is, maybes if all the blown ups at heavy came down to their natural weight it might be ok but its history suggests its either a step up for heavy for many or way to get an easier world title on your record.

i did like Haye at Cruiser though, he wasnt afraid to get stuck in because he knew he wasnt giving away massive weight or height advantages. her prob is a top ten Cruiser but in the grand scheme of things he'll prob get more recognition for being an ABC heavyweight even though his resume up there is terrible to say the least.

 

Good wins but certainly not the kind that can elevate him to ANY level of greatness. David was a competent fighter. That's about where it ends.

At the end of the day, he chased the money, nowt wrong with that, but you can't expect boxing fans to applaud it.

All in all, he was a mercenary and should be treated as such. To treat him other wise is a huge disrespect to other British boxers and I get the feeling, as a man, he'd feel that too.

World amateur medallist, unified CW champion and 2 weight champion within 30 fights and he'll be out and retired with his brains, looks (no homo) and bank account intact by the age of 31. Boxers far less accomplished get more love on these boards. He's got a mouth on him but that shouldn't demean what he's achieved.

 

Haye is obviously a decent boxer, he could have been a great CW champion but, given his size disadvantage was never going to be a great HW champion. Nevertheless, he was a HW champion and lost to one of the best champions of recent years so there's no disgrace in that, even if the manner of his defeat leaves something to be desired. He was never afraid to step up and test himself against the best - facing Carl Thompson in his 11th pro fight proves that - but he perhaps fell short at the very top level.
On this site we bemoan the fact that our favourite boxers end up penniless and devoid of their faculties, why not applaud the fact that Haye has got out with his faculties and his fortune intact?

 

Could have been the first great cruiserweight, decided to earn some money instead, selfish.
