you can't have a dedicated boxing channel that then does PPVs on top.

sky can do it as there not just offering 1 sport.

must admit i had my doubts about boxnation but frank ****** and the other involved have won me over, if you take the first weekend alone the two cards where much better than what sky had to offer, and this weekend they have got two world title fights with non other than the great B-Hop as one of them!!

Sky are hardly gonna care. They will save money and if boxnation goes tits up theyll be able to get boxing dirt cheap.

how many subscribers does boxnation need for it to be financially sustainable and considered a success?

and how many subscribers did setanta get?

i don't think boxnation will get half as much subscribers that setanta got who invested heavily on boxing and got nothing back. setanta had all the scottish football, premiere league, serie a, golf, cricket, joe calzaghe, david haye, prime miguel cotto and manny pacquiao. we all know they paid over the odds for most of what they got which lead to their demise but if boxnation needs half the subscribers setanta got to be a success then they have no chance. we who follow the sport week in week out may cancel sky sports and get boxnation, but less than 1% of the ordinary person on the street would do the same. and added to that there is an economic crisis on the way.

BN believe there are 5million boxing fans and they need 100k of them to sign up.

Don't know about Setanta. However they have different business models. Setanta invested in football and football is big business but also a killer to your bank balance. Few can play that game.

I think if they made it a Fight Channel that was equally boxing and UFC it would have had a chance. Boxing with token MMA added isnt going to extend subscriptions outside the boxing hardcore who pay rather than watch fights on illegal streams.

Add to that the lack of media coverage for any fight other than DeGale-Groves II (The Times had 22 pages of sport today for example, 1/5th of a page of that was Cleverly-Bellew) and I see it doing poor numbers.

They mentioned 100k subscribers as an aim. I can't see it doing a third of that. Not because the product isn't worth a tenner a month but due to naive planning and the reality of where boxing stands today.

Is there a HD channel for Boxnation?. Sky really need to start showing more big international fights, that's why it looks like Boxnation will be better than Sky.

There is no evidence to suggest UFC, MMA or any of that semi-homo wrestling has a real market in the UK.

The best thing Boxnation can do is tempt more big names to the channel such as Khan. I would say the main thing they need are more marquee names. How many people outside of the boxing fans know who Bellew, Cleverley, Mitchell, Degale et al are? They need more than the diehards to make this channel sustainable, so we will know in another 12 -18 months if this channel is going to work. I hope it does, as it is a great offering to the boxing fan.
