Favourite one punch knock-outs

    Well aware of that there are probably many beautiful one punch knock-outs I haven't seen, this is my top-five list.

    1. Sugar Ray Robinson against Gene Fullmer: "The perfect punch" really sums it all up. That left hook IS perfect, in every sense.
    2. Roy Jones jr against Kelly: The cheekiest knock-out I've ever seen. Jones standing against the ropes with his hands behind his back and then suddenly countering with a lightning right that ends it all. A supremely arrogant and supremely skillful way to end a fight.
    3. Marciano against Walcott: That right is a perfect combination of timing and power. Beating Walcott to the punch and remodelling his face with a short thunderbolt of a right hand.
    4. Mike McCallum against Donald Curry: That left hook just came out of nowhere and left Curry (by many considered the world's best P4P fighter at the time) out cold.
    5. Patterson against Johansson: Patterson became the first HW to regain his crown with an absolutely vicious left hook that left my compatriot prostrate on his back, completely still except for a twitching foot.

    Maybe you agree with some of these, but probably you have your own favourites as well, that you want to put on this list. Please have your say.

    Hearns - Duran is close enough to one punch for me and belongs right among the top.

    Curry was a long way from being considered the best P4P at that time, Honeyghan has beat him down.

    On Patterson and Johansson, though. Johansson had been down and was badly hurt before the last punch. This is not quite the same as Marciano-Walcott or Robinson-Fullmer.

    Good point. It was between that one and Walcott's ko of E. Charles for me. But I suppose it was devastating effect of the Pattersons punch (Johansson looked almost dead) that gave it that position.

    Walcott-Charles is the most impressive I've seen.

    Closely followed by Marciano-Walcott.

    You beat me to Walcott-Charles. Marciano-Walcott has to be the most conclusive, famous example.

    Spinks-Marvin Johnson made your blood chill.

    Athough this was a rather low profile bout, I remember in 1989, Tim Witherspoon knocked out Anders Ecklund with a huge overhand right sending the 6'6" sweed, flat on his back. That was an enormous KO win for Tim, convincing a lot of experts that he was still a very dangerous player in the heavyweight division at the time.

    In the same year, Michael Nunn's first round KO of Sumbu Kalambay was also an honorable mention

    If I remember, that was actually the result of a combination, rather than a single punch, but nevertheless I agree that it was an impressive knockout.

    Could have been. I haven't seen that fight since I watched it live nearly 14 years ago.
