Wladimirs Passive Style?

    I have been watching Wlads older bouts recently and like everyone knows the aggression was much higher

    I watched him vs Mercer in round 1 throw 3 left hooks in a row and dropped him, he doesnt use his left hook much these days let alone 3 times in a combination

    I watched Brewster I again and it was maybe his greatest fight for 4 rounds. He pressured him came forward and used good combinations, none of which i see him use in his current bouts. He showed skills that night not seen since

    He took Brewsters shots pretty well til the last minute of the 5th and was pretty comfortable in the fight even under pressure

    I watched the pre fight and Steward was talking about how his favorite punch was the left hook and he said his favorite thing was the jab left hook right hand combo

    he said he had Wladimir work on new combos not just jab jab jab right hand

    But he has not really shown it since

    I mean the finish to Peter Wlad 2 was very good as Wlad threw power shots with both arms til Peter collapsed and i wondered why he does not do this all the time

    So I ask why has Wlad's offense gone down

    Is it Steward? The Brewster loss shaking his confidence? Better opponents? Stamina

    I mean Peter I he had good offense and the Byrd fight he finished strong

    Brock was the first fight where I was kinda bored he started off on the jab only not aggressive and Brock did well

    He didnt really pick up til cut and then finished very good

    Then Austin he took out fast and I forgot that he was passive vs Brock then the Brewster rematch he was passive and didnt t really fight aggressive but was dominant and i figured it was just cause it was brewster and he didnt wanna risk gassing again

    Then the Sultan fight and on he has been very passive

    Can't argue with success, but damn I wish he'd be more aggressive.

    Some of Wlads opponents where very defensive fighters. So aggression does not work against these type of fighters.

    Wladimir knows his stuff and he learned the lesson from the losses.

    Wlad is a man with brain and you need brain to understand how it works.

    Manny Steward's always saying "fans want to see knockouts" and then he lets Wlad toy with a guy for 12 rounds. Eddie Chambers should have been KO'd in round 4! Wlad is a great fighter but it's like he wants to put fans to sleep.

    Something had to be changed..
    He couldnt keep using that style, where he was exposing his chin..
    Therefor, Steward worked on Wlads balance, timing and distance controlling, in order to avoid getting caught with huge shots.

    Actually Vlad has a high knockout percentage. The haters say the same about Vitali even though Vitali has the highest knockout percentage in heavyweight boxing history!!!!!!!

    He is just a smart dominate fighter.

    Mormeck will feel the wrath early I think.

    And his fight with thompson was decend too. Ibragimov was the worst clash of styles ever. Haye fight was amazing boxing and footwork at the highers level

    Ali had some zzzz fighterz too. Eg ron lyle fight was boring as **** till he let his hands go

    Its all tactics and its works everytime now.

    Haye and chagaev good and turn into a boxing clinic.

    Chambers looked like a scared cat in there. Dominated.

    And he showed agressive style vs rahman

    All depend on the fighter. If they stay infront thy gets pounded

    He isnt all that boring for people that know the sport well and understand boxings is more than swinging away and getting your face smashed in.

    RTL airtime might be the biggest reason for not going for the kill.. Real money riding between rounds.

    I completely agree but on the other hand I am also POSITIVE you have criticized Haye for the same thing so I have to say this makes you a collosal hypocrite. Apologies if it's not you.

    It's what's allowed him to maximise his potential and take his talent where it deserves to be, atop the heavyweight division as a sure-fire future ATG.

    When he was more aggressive his career was almost derailed. Even his brother thought his career was over after the Brewster loss, as was mentioned in their documentary. He's had a lot to lose since that fight, he was hardly going to risk making the same mistakes and take unnecessary risks. That fight changed everything, he completely over-hauled the way he went about preparing for fights and that translated into this cautious style.

    He couldn't have been much more dominant anyway than he's been the past 7 years. If he wasn't a heavyweight (where excitement is expected/demanded) his boxing would be more appreciated and respected.

    Could you please post a link to the vid of anyone KOing Chambers other than Wlad? Doesn't have to be in round 4. It can be any round.
