Well this is weird. Suddenly the person who runs boxing at Showtime becomes the president of HBO sports. Forgive me for being a conspiracy theorist, but do you guys think Arum is the one who coerced HBO to fire Ross Greenburg and choose Ken Hershman of Showtime as replacement, as part of a deal that will bring Pacman back to HBO sports? The timing and replacement seems really odd.
If this brings more balance between promoters trying to get dates on HBO, it's good for boxing. Golden Boy and Al Haymon had too much influence on HBO under Greenburg.
Well considering the recent flops of HBO sports in their free TV and PPV fights, maybe HBO hired him to change that. But what really concerns me is the timing and the choice. They could just have let Davis take over as the president of HBO sports and fill the position of Davis. And they could have looked for other talent not linked with their rival. That is why I am suspicious. After HBO got Pacquiao vs Marquez 3, HBO let Greenburg go, and the one who replaced him came from Showtime, who had procured Pacquiao vs Mosely. So maybe Arum talked to HBO that if they want Pacman back, they'll have to remove Greenburg and replace him with Hershman. Chances are that Hershman had a good business relationship with Arum that Arum refused to go back to HBO if Hershman was not included in the deal.
Probably. Iole mentioned it was a big story. And Hershman joining HBO could have massive implications for the sport.
