Agreed 100%. Hopkins thought he got Dawson at the right time, hoping that Dawson won't show up mentally. But he also knew that if Dawson showed up, he had little chance of winning. Dawson would've easily won the fight. Terrible style match up for Hopkins. Dawson is technical, fights tall and behind that jab and gives Hopkins little chances to counter. The only thing Hopkins had was the ole lunge in and clinch routine ala Calzaghe. Would've been a terrible borefest thanks to Hopkins. Not to mention Dawson also has very good hand speed.
Hopkins was on his bike and Dawson, unlike Pascal, kept the pressure on. Bernard couldn't move like that or throw punches to slow him up for 12 rounds. Dawson looked good and it would have been a good fight down the stretch as Bernard was forced to exchange more.
Off the top of my head I can recall - 1. Hopkins not being able to continue against R Allen for a NC 2. Hopkins lying on the floor for a while against A Echoles 3. Hopkins trying to fake injury to get time out against J Calzaghe 4. Hopkins lying on the floor pretending Jones Jnrs punch was behind the head. Now we have a similar scenario with Dawson.
Dawson would have won every single round with a possible late stoppage. Hopkins knows this. He would rather get out of the fight then be embarrassed 12 round to 0. Fact.
This is exactly what I was expecting from the fight. Pascal seems to take like 1 minute breaks after every attack, that was the reason Hopkins looked good at that pace. Against Dawson he had to fight at a higher pace and he would'nt have been able to kept it up for the entire fight.
The fact Dawson body slammed Hopkins after only 2 rounds actually proves he's a mental midget just as everyone said he was.
Lol all of these conclusions based on 2 rounds. All of the sudden Dawson is the best and B-Hop is weak and would've being beaten anyways. What a joke
:nono Dawson looked like a prime Bob Foster in there, maybe better. The fight was getting brutal and Hopkins was a dead man walking.
Another moron. What has Dawson done to disturb Hopkins? The man is shy, short-spoken, pity-pat boxer. Damn!
One thing I noticed though is Bernard wasnt looking his usual confident self. He would have had a hard time countering Chad and hed lose a wide decision.
