Fights like this only hurt boxing, what you have on one side is a fighter who has never had the style to be a big ppv draw in Hopkins and what you have on the other side is a guy who couldn't draw flies to **** and even if the fight had gone 12 rounds it would probably have sucked anyway but to have this as a PPV after the farce of the May Ortiz fight was just too much :-( I really hope for HBO's sake that Pac Marquez 3 is a FOTY condidate.
That's not really true, B-hop's last two fights against Jean Pascal were pretty great. He got robbed the first fight with Pascal but came back and took it over with the second fight. They were both regardless of good or not very entertaining. This is one of the reasons I even watched the Dawson/Hopkins fight last night. Pretty disappointing after the fiasco with Mayweather though. I wish some unknown up and coming would come through and be the new poster boy/ superstar of boxing.
Here's my take on it: The promoters knew the fight was fixed. One way or another, Dawson was going to win, and they were afraid it would be yet another blatant example. So: They put it on PPV so that only serious fans would be watching. - You don't want to turn casual fans off the sport by having so many blatantly fixed fights in one year, and the true fans will keep watching, regardless. Seriously, this is what I think.
I'm a massive Hopkins fan, but I didn't buy the fight. It should not have been Pay-Per-View to begin with, and now I hear there was a controversy to boot in the second round. So glad I didn't pay for this.
