In defence of Hopkins....

He did NOT dislocate his shoulder! It is an AC separation, for some reason the doctor labeled it a dislocation but it's not. When you say someone dislocated their shoulder it involves the glenohumeral joint (sorry for the big words) not the AC.

A dislocation is incredibly painful and he couldn't have continued if it was the glenohumeral but it wasn't, it was the AC. I said this in another thread but I played three quarters of a lacrosse game with a level 2 separation after injuring it in the first quarter (I'm not trying to sound, just putting it perspective). It's a painful injury but happens to athletes all the time and they continue.

The fact that he was able to hold his hands by his side post fight and not hold it in the sling position is a clear indicator it was not severe. The fact he rolled his shoulders is even more evidence it wasn't severe.

He should have at least TRIED to fight on.

Off the top of my head I can recall -
1. Hopkins not being able to continue against R Allen for a NC
2. Hopkins lying on the floor for a while against A Echoles
3. Hopkins trying to fake injury to get time out against J Calzaghe
4. Hopkins lying on the floor pretending Jones Jnrs punch was behind the head.

Now we have a similar scenario with Dawson

 

Only dislocated shoulder? BHop should have continued. If he did, fought with one arm, and was knocked out, he would have gotten a standing ovation by the crowd. I will too even if I am at home even if I root for Dawson.

 

well, that settles it. you were able to play Lacrosse with a hurt shoulder.

 

This was Hopkins' history of acting coming back to roost. If he hadn't developed a reputation for it by his own actions through his career, it's much more likely he'd have gotten the benefit of the doubt last night.

I couldnt believe how the fans booed . And that person standing behind hopkins shaking his head no to the injury.

No respect to Hopkins when he was clearly picked up Dawsons held hopkins behind the knees so he wouldnt be able to stay standing and dropped .

The crowd were just pissed the fight ended early.

 

If it is real, it's very much a case of the boy who cried wolf anyway. He's cried wolf so many times, few actually believe it when he does anymore, he's only got himself to blame.

Dawson should have been disqualified or it should have been ruled a no contest. Referee is an incompetent idiot. You can't lose on a TKO if you were never even legally punched. Hopkins threw a right, Dawson ducked under him and then picked Bernard up and threw him to the ground. It was a foul, plain and simple. This is boxing, not football.

 

This is by far the best thread on the whole issue, free from all the emotional bandwagon nonsense.
