He's still one of the very best light heavyweights in the world, but that speaks more to the lack of any real talent in the division more than anything. That right there ensures that he wont retire. There's still money for him to make at 175 or even at cruiserweight with Tarver or possibly Toney if he beats Lebedev. Hop should call it a day though in my opinion. He's had a great career, he hasn't taken a serious beating, and he seems to be in good shape financially. What's left to prove? He's a very diminished fighter now. He gets hit more than ever, he's been getting hurt and dropped recently, and looks like a shadow of his former self. And as much as I respect and love watching him display his skills, every other fight, he's rolling around on the ground looking for a break or an edge on the scorecards. Enough already. That said.....the stubborn ******* wont stop until he's 50 probably.
Either retire or match himself more carefully. He should avoid the kind of guys who compel him to embarrass himself, such as Dawson or Calzaghe. He can still make a good fight against certain world class guys (possibly even Froch), but they need to keep entertainment value in mind. And he is getting hit more, so my preference would be for him to step away with whatever dignity he has left.
Honestly, he could still beat most of the 175 guys. I'd like to see Hopkins vs Cloud next as Pascal and Dawson are looking to beat the living **** outta eachother
Hopkins needs to fight a guy like Bute, a person who can bring in a big purse to him, i am sure what hopkins is getting a fight is a joke compared to his p4p status, he needs to use his name to cash in on some big fights, i sure if he sign to fight a erdei in germany, it would be a big payday for him. He has got to seek out some names that have nice followings. If he went over to europe, i am sure he would look at some seven figure numbers. But my guess, he doing what he enjoys so he will keep going,
