It was a bad match up for Hopkins from the start.

I think he would have been better off fighting Cloud.

Agreed. He obviously didn't want to win the way he did. He truly believed Hopkins was ducking him before and he wanted the KO. He never got the chance to do what he thought he was capable of. I don't know what would have happened if the fight went on but I can understand why he's bitter.

exactly. I felt Chads response was very sincere. He was pissed off, he thought he was on his way to an easy win and the biggest of his career against a guy he felt ducked him for 3 years, he wants nothing to do with B-Hop anymore and I don't blame him. I'd be pissed too.

nobody won'ts this fight, look hopkins time is up. let dawson,cloud,pascal,the 2 british lads and just fought, the black russian and a couple other guys starting fighting each other.

 

I'm confused as to your position, what is the root of your Hopkins "sympathy", hate Dawson, Hopkins "super fan", just taking the argumentative position on this one? I don't understand your beef, you've taken this "butt hurtish" position in every thread I've seen.

 

Hopkins can still beat lower level competition for a few more years. But against A level talent like Dawson who shows up mentally, come on. That's asking too much. Hopkins was looking like the Calzaghe fight all over again. His only attack being the lunge and clinch routine every 30 seconds or so. Just ugly. That's when you know Hopkins is uncomfortable. Dawson kept stalking him and not giving Hopkins any chance to rest. And worse yet, Dawson didn't present any counter opportunities because Dawson fights a smart, technical fight.

 

Yep. He was more emotional than I've even seen him be in the ring, obviously feeling like Hopkins robbed him from a great performance.

And the public isn't exactly going to clamor for a rematch. Dawson has better options in Pascal II and eventually Cloud, plus Froch or Ward in a couple years.

Hopkins' time has passed. He's still a world class fighter but makes for a horrible style if he's matched inappropriately, as he was against Calzaghe and Dawson. If he wants to continue, find another Pavlik (Cloud?).

Dawson is like 6'3" with a huge wing span. He can easily fight at HW when he gets close to 35, when his body fills out even more.
